Should you support your local team or the most succesful one.

Living in Manchester I am a life long Manchester City fan. Aside form the obvious rivalries between Manchester City & Manchester United, is it a good thing that support for a soccer team depends more on the teams media image/brand than locality. Years ago children followed (for the most part) their Fathers team. But now you can see Arsenal and Chelsea shirts in Manchester and Manchester United shirts in London. To me locality to a team and supporting them through thick and thin is important. Lets face it as a City fan thats been the case for years. But is it just a cop out to support the winning team regardless?

Just wanting to start with this; When people wear shirts, it doesn't mean they support the club... where as most of the time it probably shows they like 'em, could just the fact they like the short etc. (I own a lot of shirts myself) You're very right though. My team is notts county, I don't care where they finish as they'll do what they can and I don't expect anymore as I'll cheer them 100%. (even if they was to go further down in lower divisions) forest is another nottingham side and I wouldn't support them even if it was do or die. Aside from that I do support arsenal, as I always liked they're stripey socks back in 92/95 season(s) where many didn't like them. If they was to play county, I'd cheer for county.. (I've seen them play though) back when Mr Pennant was a young maggy and was brought by arsenal. Kudos.... ~Joey

I know what you mean, although I restrict my other shirts to the likes of Inter Milan and Italy (Family connections). But I know many youngsters who support clubs like MAnchester United and Chelsea because they win, no other reason. I just wonder if that is healthy for football in then UK especially in the lower leagues.

Oh sure. When I was junior school I was the only person who supported arsenal/county. Most followed manchester united because glory seems cooler, even back then you'd see people proud to wear a forest shirt but now you only see them on match day.. lol Later in senior school when arsenal was last seasons champions, everyone was following them. ~Joey

no, i disagree.. if it was just about where you are from, then thats all about nationalism... and players get switched from rival teams all the time so that doesnt make sense at all... i think its about the players you like, not a line in the ground that determines what team your supposed to like for you.. i like my team not because i live their but because they are the most entertaining, and i like every player..

why not listen to your heart and let it tell you you really want to support which one?
