My sister's mother in law is getting married Dec. 14. She is 80 and her finance is 82. Most everyone in the family is happy about it except my one nephew. He is kinda upset as he doesn't really like the guy and also part of it has to do with his real grandpa that has passed on.....he doesn't want anyoone to forget his grandfather. How would you feel if your parent or grandparent was getting hitched at a late age? Would you be happy or think there is something unusual about it?

Horray for Grandma....That gives me an uplift to hear that. I will be on Medicare in May and now still have hope that I may meet the man of my dreams...even if he is an old man...haha. Of course, I could find a younger one but after being married for 36 years and divorced for 8...I'd kinda given up hope of finding one that I would marry. I think it's wonderful. We may get old but we still have fire in our furnaces...although at 80 they may be just embers...who knows?

I would be happy for them, that they have found someone to share the rest of their life with, and that they don't have to be alone. As for your nephew, let him know that noone will forget his grandfather and that he will always be with him in his heart. It's kinda funny that I found this discussion, I have been living with a wonderful man for over 2 years, and my oldest daughter asked me if we ever talk about getting married (we've both been married 3 times) and I told her yes we have. We agreed that if we are still together in 30 years then we'll get married, considering that we can find an accessible place and that we can still hear the preacher! LOL

I think it is great that two people find each other and want to be together. And since they are older, that would mean marriage. If it was my mom, I would be both happy for her but I would be sad for me.I would gain a step father, but in a way I would lose my dad.

Maybe the bride to be can assure him that she will never forget him either.Maybe that will help.

I think it is beautiful when an older person still has enough spirit and life to carry on after losing a spouse. Someone should have a heart to heart with the nephew. This lady deserves to enjoy the rest of her life.

i would be happy and delighted!! it's unusual and interesting and so sweet at the same time. knowing the people gets married at that age gives me hope..that when love happens, it doesn't have to have a deadline. at my age, (i'm 26) people always want to get hitched already. im not rushing, but i hate it when people say things like im getting old, my eggs are getting shriveled, ill get frigid, yada yada yada.. so hearing this piece of news just makes my day. love will come my way! so congratulations to your grandparents!!!

I would initially feel weird. Like your nephew, I would not want anyone to forget my grandpa too. But I am sure grandpa in Heaven would feel happy for grandma and her husband to be. He wouldn't want to see her alone in this world. He would want her to be happy and have someone to take care of her. May God bless their wedding. =D

Hi jillhill, Congratulations to Grandma and Grandpa, I think it's great. When two people fall in love, age doesn't matter. Tell your nephew that no one is going to forget his real grandpa, and if he will try to get to know him, I bet he'll like the new guy too. No one can really replace a grandpa, or a grandma for that matter, but life goes on and we have to adjust. Blessings.

Wonderful news. I hope your nephew does get over what's going on in at least some capacity. Don't know how I'd react if my surviving grandparents got hitched, I don't really see it happening. But, I could be wrong.

You never know and it might happen! But I think it's wonderful that she will not be alone anymore!
