Do you reuse wrapping papers?

Do you reuse wrapping papers? - A picture of gifts... wrapping papers...
Singapore
December 2, 2007 3:51am CST
Christmas is just about 3 weeks away... how time flies! You know, when we get gifts from friends, they normally come wrapped. Well, every gift should be wrapped where possible to add that personal touch and "mystery". :P The question is: Do you reuse those wrapping papers? For me, I would if they look nice, are in good condition and do not have any store brand stamped on them. What about you? Do you reuse wrapping papers or dump them straight? Or... ? Do share your thoughts! =)

I try to be good about reusing the wrapping paper, for conservation's sake, and saving money and all that. I'll try to take it off carefully so its not ripped up and ruined, and I'll collect it all and fold it or roll it up and put it away. Then the holiday comes and I can't remember where I put it, or it got ruined throughout the year, or I find some pretty paper I really like and decide I want to use that instead. I am an evil paper waster.. but I do have the good grace to feel bad about it. and I at least try to save it, so I think I should get points for that..lol

when i was kid i had a habit of reusing everything in one way or the other. I used to reuse wrapper papers in my art projects decorating my room and in many ways. nowadays i don't get time for these things. last time i reused the stepper motor of my floopy drive to make a toy for my little brother

I love to wrap gifts in the wrapping paper. It is worth any gift to watch the face of the person receiving it beam up with surprise. And when I get such a gift, I try to open it without ripping apart the paper and keep it safely. I reuse the same paper at times, but if it was given by someone really close, I don't feel like giving away the wrapping paper:)

My parents always used to just throw away wrapping paper from presents when i was litle. i can't help but to think it's a waste, but i wouldn't want to use crinkled wrapping paper. I recycle gift bags, though.

Gift bags as in the bag you used to contain the wrapped presents? Well, those are certainly reusable whatever store they might be from. If they look good and presentable, all the more better! :)

I reuse wrapping papaer but only if it not clear that it was used before. My mother would reuse it 5 time if it was possible but I don't like that. Specially because wrapping paper is very cheap so its not something that would make you bankrupt.

In my family I have to be careful which paper I use for their gifts, since some are like me and recycle. I try not to wrap a gift in used paper that was given to me by the recipient of this year's gift. For example, my aunt wraps all of her gifts in angel papers, so I know to try to use the older angel papers (on the bottom of the pile) or I use another pattern and just include an angel ornament. It helps me spend more money on gifts by recycling the paper! In fact, I still have baby Christmas wrap from when my 15 yearold daughter was little. I roll it onto a wrap roll and tie ribbons around it each year to keep the paper free from fold marks.

Definitely! It wouldn't do if the recipient can tell it is reused. :P

Just a thought: You can perhaps label the wrapping papers so that you won't forget who gave which lol.:P

Yes, I do reuse wrapping papers. In my dormitory, you can see there is a big box which is used to collect something that not use any more, such as waste papers, shopping bags, bottles... Yeah, you're right, we are the "green girls". We often reuse something that in that box. Or we will sell them out and then we can earn some money...lol...

But that reusing is slightly different from this reusing we are discussing here. :P There, you more like make it into "new paper".:PP Still reusing of course... :PPP

Well I don't tear them apart. I will slowly open wrappers. Yes I do reuse them. I sometimes use them to cover things. Books, notebooks, boxes or sometimes cut the pics out to add as decor on other things or use it to add personal touches on your gifts. Sometimes it comes handy when you need to give an emergency gift. You always got a wrapper at hand. Sometimes I make Christmas decors out of those wrappers too. It's just I always try to find use on things and not just easily throwing them away.

No. Because I don't know many people who unwrap gifts nice enough to be able to re-use it. However, my great grandmother used to wrap the boxes. So like the lid would be wrapped and then the bottom wrapped. But Not together. So they were still separate. That way the boxes could be reused every year. That's about it.

I'd like to see someone teach a 3 year old to "practice" unwrapping so that the paper can be re-used.

Yea. Indeed. Time flies and I am getting older... =( I love to wrap gifts for people. I also like to unwrap gifts given to me. Usually when I receive a gift, I'll be very excited to unwrap it. I'll happily and excitedly tear open the wrapping paper and opps... due to my tear.. the gift wrap cannot be used again. LOL I guess I am too chor-lor (rough) If only I can remember to tear open my gift wrap gently, I am sure I would reuse it too. Of course, I will only reuse it if the wrapping paper looks nice and in good condition. P.S Most of the wrapping paper I received has the Pooh Bear prints on it. =D

Thought you said you are not worried.:P I find it hard to imagine how someone can be so unrestrained as to tear into gifts. I know we see that in shows but in real life? :PP

I don't really re-use wrapping paper...but I don't get them wrapped at the stores, either. I like to go to places like the Dollar Store, and other cheaper stores to get cute papers, that I can personalize to the person I'm giving the gift to. I work at an animal hospital, so one year I found really cute dog and cat wrapping paper at the Dollar Store, so I used that for all of the gifts for my co-workers. I use the cute "little kid" wrapping paper for my son and the other kids in our family, and find appropriate paper for the other adults. I'm really quite obsessed with it when it comes to Christmas!! LOL

I always try to reuse wrapping papers whenever I can, although not necessarily for wrapping presents. I'll give you an example. I recently moved into a new flat and the walls were very bare. They were just pure white. But I'd just had my birthday and still had most of the presents in their wrapping paper for transporting them. The wrapping paper my family tends to use is quite humorous, so I was able to cut out the huge pictures and tack them all over my wall to make them look a bit more interesting. They'll certainly do until I can get some decent wallpaper.

No I do not reuse wrapping paper. I like it when people tear into their presents and then we crumple up the paper. It is true that is a waste of paper but that just adds to the holiday fun. Tearing into the packages is exciting for the kids. my mom tried to save paper one year, it was so boring being so careful to open up the packages.

If the wrapping paper is in good condition I will reuse it. I don't automatically dump it. I go around collecting the bows and ribbons as well, AND the tissue paper. If tissue paper gets too wrinkled then I iron it so it is good for reuse. Waste not, want not.

Yeah, i am quite a non polluting kind of person. I would take every opportunity possible to re use something. Actually not everything, but all those things which are reusable, such as plastic bags, papers, wrappings etc. I like to decorate gifts as well so I always, whenever I get a gift, I keep its cover or wrapping safe, and I really unwrap the gift with care so as not to destroy the wrap. Then I keep it with all due concern, with the thought of reusing it at times when I would really want to. Last Christmas, I really used some of those wraps and it really felt good. It helps to have some wraps always, so that you may not have to wrap those small small presents that you have to give in emergency or you have no time to get them wrapped outside or when you have to show your care, these wraps come quite handy. even while I need to gift something to my girlfriend. Anyways Take Care May GOD Bless YOU

I don't reuse the wrapping paper to wrap a gift, I shred the paper and use it to put it in boxes before wrapping or in gift bags. I save and reuse gift bags and the bows.

Of course! I use it for shelf lining papers - fun to open the dark cabinet and see happy little characters or bright colors come back at yoU! I use it for packing papers or wrapping breakables in. I use it for stationery - cut a piece off and write on the back. My 7 yo GD loves it when I send her a letter in March with Reindeer or some other happy character on it. Last year is was candy cane paper - life like looking, not cartoon and I sent her a long letter (cut the paper about 6" wide and 24" long!) and she loved it being on the back of candy cane paper, a LONG letter and of course, from her favorite NannY! I have used wrapping paper in scrapbook layouts - cut out the image, word or whatever is on the sheet, or just use a piece of it for a matte (watch acid issue). I have let my GD cut out the images to create her own stickers or to use to make a colorig page or something like that - don't have a name for it! She loves cutting htem out so I gave her paper to glue them on! I have a little sticker machine and she runs them through that and has stickers for her books or whatever. Don't throw away what you can use elsewhere!
