Instrumental versions

Hey there all music fans! Does anyone know where I can download free mp3 files of popular songs that have no lyrics - i.e. the instrumental version? All I have seen are sites which do have them, but you have to pay money to buy them. I want to get songs by such artists as coldplay, hip hop, u2 and others. Thanks in advance for your helpful feedback.

Do you want a version where the vocal tract is suppressed/eliminated so that you can sing along or do you want an instrumental arrangement of the song where instruments are represented instead of backing and primary vocals?
If you are looking for the former, I would put "karaoke" or "karoake version" in your search. Sometimes that will get you what you are looking for. Many people who sing karaoke or don't but just want to sing along look for it. If you are looking for the latter, it really takes someone else to be interested in recording the song as an instrumental. For example, the Boston Pops sometime do arrangements of popular songs.
