How far away is your mailbox???

OK, this sounds like a really stupid question, and I know there are tons of those here, but bear with me a bit and you might find it quite funny. To put things in perspective, the average 3 bedroom house around here costs about $300,000. There are some new houses down the street from me, which are in various stages of development, starting at the low $900,000. Then there are some up the street a ways, starting at $560,000. The ones down the street have pretty big lots, while the ones up the street are about stacked on top of each other. Now, get this... BOTH places have the mailboxes out on the main street - not by the house, at the end of the driveway. The one place has them all lined up, the other place has them in the apartment-style mailbox things. Now, if I'm going to pay that kind of money for a house, you better believe I want the mail delivered to my house, not a quarter mile down the road! I just think it's hilarious that they pay all that money for a house and can't get the mail delivered to it!

I like it. If they are that rich, then they have maids and folks to do their lawns and most everything else. They need the exercise of the walk down to their mailbox!! Shoot I have to walk half a block to my mailbox because our apt. complex has them in clumps and I'm not rich and I definitely don't need the extra exercise.

Hahahahah - I like your thinking! I just wonder how long the mailboxes will stay where they are. I'm sure it wont be long before they complain about it and the mail is delivered to thier houses.

Well I used to live in a Trailer park and the mail box was at the entrance...about 1/4 mile from my house. I would drive the car to check the mail. Whih I find rediculouse. Now we have moved into a nice house and my mail box is attatched to the house right by the front door!! Yippy!! LOL. No more driving to get the mail. I can just open the door and there it is! Back to what you were saying thats outrages prices for houses and to not have the mail box at the house. Thats just stupid!! Why would someone pay thousands of dollars and still have to drive miles to check the mail?

I know!! If they don't grab it on their way home for the night, they have to walk quite a ways if they live in the back or drive out to get it. For the one place, it would be a nice stroll, but for the other, it's on a main street and might be dangerous.

I think it's more that we keep paying more for postage only to have postal services cut to the bare minimum. Mailboxes used to be situation where it was most convenient for the boxholder. Now they're placed where it's most convenient for the post office. Personally I live in a small town now where we still go to the post office and pick up the mail while finding out what's going on in town. Sometimes the distance to your mailbox isn't as important as other things.

I guess we've all gotten hooked into the "hustle and bustle" of everyday life. It would be rough for us to go to the post office to get our mail. Not only are they open while I'm at work, there would always be a huge line. We're not quite city, but it's too big for that.

Now that is too hilarious. I agree with you, if I was paying that much for a home, I sure would want the mail delivered to my front door. Not to be apartment style mailbozes, or lined up like trailor park mail boxes either.

Our mail box is just at the end of a short drive way. Its handier for us as our former postman had the gift of the gab, and we never had our post before 6.30 in the evening. We now have a new postman who I dont think likes his job lol... He is very prompt and we have our post before 2.30 in the afternoon now!! :-)

The person that delivers out mail comes at all times during the day. I never know when to expect the mail, although it's usually there when I get home from work. And since it's right by where I park my car, it's easy to pick up on the way to the house.

That is pretty crazy. I don't think I would want to pay that much money for a house with a mailbox up the road. But I live in the country and our houses are not right on top of each other and our mailbox is out the end of our driveway. Not at the end of the road. I've never noticed that before. I will have to pay attention the next time I'm driving in the city and see where peoples mailboxes are. Have a great day.

I think the ones on this busy street will have deliver to the houses at some point, but the other one has the mailbox station already cemented in so I think theirs is there to stay - and that's the more expensive houses!!!

I agree, if I am paying all that money for a big expensive house. I want my mail delivered no farther away than the end of my driveway! I live on the military base and our mailboxes are in clumps. One big mailbox holds 10 smaller ones. There is one mailbox every few buildings. We live in single floor duplex type housing. Our mailbox is about 3-4 houses down. I don't really care where mine is because I think I have gotten the mail like 3 times in the 2 years we have lived here. My husband loves to get the mail so I let him do it every day.

I don't love getting the mail - it's usually bills :-( But I do like having it close. I'd probably only get it every couple days if I had to go out of my way to get it.

I am with you, reiny! It is my understanding, though, that very few new builds are getting individual mail boxes. Apparently they are unsafe with the number of mailboxes that get broken into. The high dollar houses have more attractive mail as well, so it makes sense to have the blocks of mailboxes. I'm with you, though. I miss having a mailbox righ at my home.

One of the places just has a row of regular boxes - not the apartment kind. And it's on a main street. It's not very safe for the people to get to for their mail, and anyone can drive by and get stuff out of it. I'm sure we'll see one day where a car ran all the boxes down.
