I read this interesting article at msnbc.com about how honey is good for little ones should have a teaspoon of honey before going to bed when their sick. It will help them sleep with no coughing. This remedy it not for children under 1yrs old though. I know I as a mother will always have honey in my kitchen for now on. what do think of the idea giving your little ones honey before going to bed?

I saw this article. I often drink hot tea with honey when I have a sore throat or cough. It is very soothing. Honey contains a natural antibiotic but should not be given to infants because it contains botulism spores. The spores are harmless to most people but infants' immune systems may not be strong enough to resist them.

I like hot tea with honey in it when I'm sick. but my son don't like tea yet. So I always just give him a little honey on the spoon. He's 3 yrs. so I know its safe.

We have always used honey but we are careful to only use local honey. Local honey has the things that we are exposed to each day in them. The bees only make honey from their own neighborhood so it really is important to use local honey when you can. I have two brothers who has bees as well as two Uncles so we have an endless supply of local honey.

Thats interestin. I don't think here in alaska they make local honey. I know we get bees in the summer time but I've seen local honey sold here. All I honey is from out of state so I just buy pure honey not the honey with clover in it. thats the types of honey we sell here in ALaska.

I think this is a great idea. I love trying to find anything that is a natural fix to a problem. Plus, my son HATES cough medicine. He started school this year, so he's getting sick more often than ever before. This is a good idea to keep in mind, and next time I am at the grocery store, I will have to pivk some up!

I got to buy me some honey today to when at the store. I can't put my son in school. I wish I could I am having a hard time teaching preschool at home. never done preschool at home. I used to teach other kids years ago but their were kindergarden and that was fun and easy. but anyways I can't put him in school because he's got a low immune system. He gets sick so easierly around other kids and then back to the hospital we go for a week. I won't go thru that again he did that earlier this year all the way back to one he was 1 yr. He's 3 yr. now and not getting sick very often and i can get rid of it in a week. I give him herbal immune system builder. It keeps him healthy.

I have been advised when I was pregnant by my gynec to take honey instead of sugar if I am having fresh juices and to take coffee, tea and milk with less sugar or if possible without sugar. This she advised as I had caught cold and she asked me to continue even after my child birth.
Yes honey is a natural medicine for sore throat and for kids under 1 you could just take a small drop and rub it on their tongue before they go to bed. I too store up honey.
