The movie is basically about a boy who forms an unhealthy relationship with an ex Nazi death camp officer. In once scene they show the old guy try to put a cat in a gas oven that's lit! They of course don't let it happen and the kitty gets away. Later there's a scene where the boy is in a gymnasium and a hurt pigeon wanders in the open doorway. It's obviously he can't fly and the boy is walking towards him with basketball in hand so the pigeon starts walking out except his little foot gets stuck in something and he can't. They show the boy bouncing the ball very hard in front of the bird and then holds it over his head and really whacks it down...obviously on the bird then turns and walks away. They never show the bird again and you don't hear him any more although you did in the beginning. Do they think a pigeon is any less an animal than a cat is? That is the feeling I got from watching the movie and it really upset me. I know pigeons have a bad reputation but they still live and breathe so why should they be treated with any less respect than any other animal?

The movie is Apt pupil. And yes the movie is disturbing. I think it's supposed to show how the boys dark side grows after being influenced by the former Nazi officer. No I don't think the pigeon is any less valuable a being than the cat. But alot of places seem to feel pigeons are a nuisance. I recently read an article about New York hiring a Pigeon Czar to make sure people aren't feeding them. Fines are involved. I told Mylot about it too. I agree with you.

Ive always wanted to write a book on this very subject. People cant seem to understand all animals are sensitive to one degree or another. Im not an animal rights type of person but I live around lots of animals and care for many. Some people seem to put certain animals in groups of usefullness or unusefullness.

Well i am sure that the director of the movie didnt mean that.I guess he was just concentrating on the fact that the 2 characters shown were very bad and didnt care about hurting others.I guess it was just a coincidence that the cat got away and the pigeon didnt. Can you please tell me the name of this movie?

you should be careful with what movies you look at those days. try to get some information about the movie before you look at it. some of the scenes in these movies can really affect you psychologically.

I think pigeons are just as important as cats. That is a cruel scene and just hearing about it, I don't like it! Thta is awful! That has to be a very disturbed kid to do such a thing to a helpless, hurt animal!

It is always better not to take scenes in a movie too seriously. I used to be disturbed by rape scenes. But nowadays, I enjoy it a lot.Peace.

Ugh! Please don't give me a - ! I love animals but, I also eat them. I can't help myself. I must have meat. I've never ate a pigeon but, I have eaten a ton of quail. I don't believe in abusing ANY animal. My son is a hunter and he would never shoot anything that he doesn't intend on eating. (I raised him with that belief) He even called me one day asking how to prepare hummingbird because he had shot one on accident.
