What is a man? The dictionary has many definition. One is "An adult male person as distinguished from a boy or woman". I've heard many people say phrases like, "Be a man" "Man up!" "that wasn't manly" "He's a mans man" etc. Tell a man that he is not a man and you have clearly insulted him and he is ready for a fight. What is it that distinguishes a man from a boy? Men and boys can have children, work, demean and degrade. This is just something that I was pondering.

I think that society has used these phrases like 'be a man' or 'man up' to make men feel like they have to act or be a certain way to be a 'real man'. Instead I believe that a real man is someone who is past the adolecent stage of his life and who takes responsibility for his actions.

All of those phrases don't mean the same thing. "Be a Man!" usually means to a guy "grow up, stand up, take responsibility." If one was addressing a woman, one may say "stand up and be a woman!" He's a "man's man" means that lots of other guys look up to him as an example of how to live or act.

sometimes, if a man is trying to seem like a woman, like Pinky or that other one on here, then they are insulted if you DO call them a man you really have to be careful these days
