I have been looking at reviews after reviews for the mentioned cameras. There are so many of them that one is really spoil for choices. This is especially so when you are looking at your first DSLR. So many things to consider besides budget. From picture format to functionalities to support to different lenses available for each model in the DSLR series. Now I am at the cross roads for selecting a model for purchase. I am sort of overwhelmed at the specifications I am looking at. There is a fair that is offer bundled deals for the above mentioned models. Given these three choices, what would you have chosen for your first DSLR?

I think the most important is the photography skills. These three brands are famous and they will take good photos. I like Olympus E510 as its price is very good now. And I think it's easy to manage. Nikon is my second favorite. I love China

Hi hi... thanks for replying to this thread. It is so long ago that I posted this thread. I almost forgot about entirely. Heh heh heh... Well, I do agree with you on the point about the skills of the photographer. But when one is acquiring an expensive camera (well, expensive to me ), there are a lot of considerations to take note of. Things like ease of use. Whether future upgrades will be a problem as the investment in accessories like lenses, flash, battery, memory cards... etc will be compatible with the future upgrades of the camera body. Also, one has to consider whether the functionality will affect your shooting in the event one of them fail or spoil (example, anti shake in lens or in body). So, due consideration is really required. Lots of homework to be done. I am not discrediting any brand of camera over the other. But each individual has his or her wants and needs. So based on all these, one would have a clearer idea of what camera to get. The E510 is a good buy given that Olympus is trying to edge into the DSLR market that is dominated by Canon and Nikon. I did seriously consider getting the E510. But something else in the Nikon D80 attracted me that made me reconsider my options.
