Every once in awhile I reference a list of sayings I call, "ParaTed2k's (Not So) Famous Sayings. They were started as part of my blog, but I've found them to be useful in most parts of my life.
Yesterday a loony "lost puppy" went to a mall in Omaha, Nebraska and created a tragedy. He decided to trade 8 lives for what he thought would bring him fame.
One of ParaTed2k's (Not So) Famous Sayings comes to mind with this senseless act...
~Press=Participation.
Yesterday, 8 lives were tragically lost in that mall in Omaha. Yesterday (statistically speaking) 125 lives were lost on US streets and highways.
One would say that, as a result of the 8 deaths, we are a nation in mourning, left to wonder why, how and what could have been done to prevent it.
One would be wrong.
The fact is, as a result of the PRESS COVERAGE of the tragedy, we are a nation in mourning.
How many of us are morning the tragic death of 125 people?
This is not to say that the deaths of those 8 people shouldn't be mourned... but do the 125 people killed in traffic deserve mourning any less?
