Christmas morning - how do you handle it?

It's been a long time since I had a christmas morning - my kids have been moved out for about 5 years and of course "christmas morning" was not the main event as they were older than when they were younger and I miss it! So, how do you handle the getting up time with the little ones on christmas morning? Do they have to stay in bed until you wake up? Do you set your alarm, to make sure you are up before them? Do you have them wake you?

My kids are grown and I miss the excitement of Christmas morning, too! Ours would usually wake up on their own when they heard us moving around, but they knew not to come downstairs until everything was ready - tree lights on, Christmas music playing, camera at the ready, even scissors and trash bags close by. When our single son is able to be home for Christmas, he still stays upstairs until I let him know things are ready downstairs, but the mornings aren't quite as early as they used to be!

I would usually try to do most of it when I knew they were asleep. Stockings and anything santa related. It was easier to stay u p later than to get up earlier! But they could get up and LOOK nad then wake me up if not already up. I sure do miss that! I loved the stockings best! Okay, let me go cry for a minute here!!!

Growing up we never had a Christmas morning. We always had all of our gifts long before Christmas time. My mom would get excited and give us our gifts as soon as she had one for each of us. Sometimes that resulting in the gift giving portion of our Christmas being over before October! Anyway, my husbands family has always has (he has 7 brothers and sisters still at home) Christmas present opening after dinner which is always about 2pm. I am not sure how it will work as our son gets older. I don't know if that at least while we live near them we will haul all his gifts over there, or what. Right now we have at least a year to think about it, since he is our first and only 16 months!
