First, I take Prevacid for my GERD. Occasionally I will still get some heartburn but I find sucking on peppermints help. There is also peppermint tea or, what I drink, Eater's Digest tea which contains peppermint, chamomille, licorice and other digestive aids. It helps for all kinds of stomach ailments. As far as foods I eat, I never know what is going to affect me and when. I know that overeating (ie when you go out to a restaurant) I will definitely get cramps. I know I cannot eat lettuce leaves of any sort so that rules out salad. Cream sauces are bad too. At this point in time (11 years later) I have found that raw fruit and veggies are the only way to go. The salad we have for dinner every night is tomatoes & cucumber. We stopped eating broccoli and cauliflower. They just don't work for bad digestive systems. Sometimes I will eat my raw veggies with dip, and that's not good because the dip is creamy. For lunch every day I eat what are considered high alkalide fruits (which are recommended by health professionals). I eat watermelon, canteloupe, honey dew melon and pineapple. Sometimes strawberries. All kinds of berries are good. What I find unpredictable is, for example, ice cream. Sometimes it bothers me, sometimes it doesn't. I stopped eating cake with icing. That's a big no-no. We go to McDonald's every Saturday for dinner because we go to Mass from 5pm to 6pm. It was a ploy we used to get the kids to behave in church so we never stopped. I always have the same thing - a crispy chicken sandwich. I do not order pop and fries. Now there are lettuce and mayonnaise on this sandwich. - both make my IBS act up. So why do I get cramps sometimes and not other times? I don't get that. Tonight it didn't bother me at all. Other times I am flooring it to get home to the bathroom. I know I probably shouldn't be eating it at all but I do love that sandwich! I think there are no easy answers with IBS. I really, honestly believe every individual is different and you have to find what works for you. When I got the pamphlet about the Alkalides versus Acids to keep the PH balanced I started eating those fruits every day and I have felt great eating those. You might want to see if you can get your hands on this pamphlet. It is put out by Genuine Health at www.genuinehealth.com. Good luck!

ever think of cleansing your GI tract? there's a 2 part program of *volcanic clay and psyllium husks that works great. the clay is negatively charged and pulls all the positively charged elements in your tract to it. the psyllium gently scrubs and stimulates the cillia of your GI tract and rids it of all the nasties there. i will introduce nutrients back into your system with **reliv, a soy based powdered shake, using water, your favorite juice or milk. then you can eat what you need. raw fruits and veggies are great and the probiotics in activa work fine. (*www.sonnes.com #7 and #9 packages, **www.reliv.com reliv classic and arthaffect)
