In most chinese children's view,go to university means a good job they can get in the future. But when some face their graduation, they can't get a job in their field. It seems they wasted 4 years in the university. The former headmaster of Zhejiang University Zhu Kezhen asked a question on the first day of term. Why you go to the university? The question seems need a clear and unambiguous answer. But can our original intention fits the question? I realy want to know why you go to university?Do you have a clear purpose?

I honestly cant even tell you the difference between a college and a university. But i can tell you this i think it depends on where you live whether or not your actually able to find a job. I know around here a lot of people have wasted time. And i think most people just pick a university because they like the school not because its a university.

Well I belive that we go toy universities to help solidify and strengthen all we have learned throughout our school carreer. The main reason would be in all possibility to gain a mastery in our fututre field of occupation. However in order for this to happen 50% lies in the person studying and 50% in the school you aqttend. So just going to the university alne will help you.

Universities are places to explore. You go to universities not only to receive a piece of paper, but to discover yourself. As being half- chinese and a Canadian citizen, I used to have the same issue of pressure and determination of going to university. In the end, after highschool and eventually going ive realized that there really is no big deal. In university, as a humanities student, I am taught how to think, and to think critically free from interferences whether they be intentional or coincidence. You build relationships in university that last a lifetime, and if you make the right ones, you can possibly secure a job right after you leave school. On a personal level, you are also learning to interact with others (u should be) whether it be at a party or in a board/group/study room. The University experience is only as good as what you take out of it, that is up to you.

The fact that students graduate from universities without good jobs can not prove that going to university is useless. The key problem is what they do in university,if they can improve their abilitiy, they can have good jobs.Another reason is that china's population is so large, the carrer competetion is so fierce, sometime the employer need the degree as a standard to chose employee, but things are changing. The ability is respected more nowadays. So the purpose of going to universities is changing as well.In my opinion, study is interesting. If i can make living on study, that the most wonderful thing. So,study is a kind of live style.

I guess we go to universities to get some kinda education and we have this preconceived notion that going to universities means having a good future ahead of us. Also by going to universities we have higher chance of getting job then others. Think if you don't go to universities would you easily get a job in countries like China and India. I guess not. Very few people become movie stars, sports stars and rock stars. But there are millions of engineers so its easy i guess but if u don't even go to universities it will be even harder for you to get a job.

We go to the universities because there are many things that you can learn from it. First, you can learn a time management skill. At the university, you have to learn how to manage your time among your courses, extra curiculars, and other things. Some people also have jobs when studying at the universities. Getting good grades and having other valuable things that you are going to pursue while studying at the university need a time management skill. Second, you can learn how to work in a team work environment. Some courses need you to work with the team. Third, the university will teach you how to use your thinking in order to solve the problems. This will be beneficial after graduating from the university. Fourth, if you study at the university, you will also have an opportunity to network with your professors, alumni, and other educated people. Some people are saying that getting education doesn't guarantee you to be successful in life but if you don't have any education at all, how can also you be successfull? The chance will be more limited or even nothing if there is no education at all. Although some well known people such as Bill Gates or others can be successful without education, those people are not many. We tend to forget that there are many educated people who are also successful in life. The problem is that we are often seeing it into a different measurement (it is like comparing carrot and stick). We tend to see it into an extraordinary thing.

I think at least you can learn something from the university. You may be right it is hard to get a job after graduation. However, if they don't have an university certificate, do you think they can be easier to find a job? I don't think so. If you study hard, you won't waste the time in the university.

Hi,there! I think when one goes to the university at the beginning,it's understandable that they're not very clear about the purpose of going to a university. We may just know that we need to study in the university so that we can obtain the ability that we need in the society. But as we spend the time in the university,I think we should find out why we're there and what should be different for us and what we need to obtain during those years:) I think I've experienced many things that I've never experienced before during the years in the university and they're so benefical for me that they affect my life and thoughts after that. Thanks for the discussion and have a nice day:)

I'm a sophomore in a university. To most of us in fact going to university means to blow the biggest buble that had supported us so long. I also questioned myself why i went to university the only acceptable answer is to fulfill the dream of my parents'. Their generation suffered from the Great Cultural Revolution and they didn't have a chance to receive higher education. That's it. Still got 2 years and a half to kill!

Being in the universities is really a great opportunity to use your capabilities in things for reality. I had been in the university in our country, Philippines, it is one of the most outstanding schools in the country where there are great professors. Being in school , you will learn facts that never been experienced in reality directly. u need to study more to obtain your success in life. u need to sacrifice in order to know more things that's why it is important to go to universities atleast you are qualified if you apply in good eployment in the future.

I think the most important or realistic purpose is that maybe only by going to university we can find a job which can make us or our parents satisfied. In China, this is reality. When we are child, our parents tell us ,good good study, day day up,and take the enteance of university .I think I love my parents ,so i can't make them disappointment.
