Was the Talk Show The View Better Before?

I remember when the view started, and it was a different show then. I'm not sure it was better just different. I do like Whoopie Goldberg.

I had gotten behind in my kitchen chores so I had the View on for the entire hour. The second half was an infomercial! Is this unusual? or is The View really a commercial gateway to consumers?
