HO scale or larger train sets

I wonder how the tradition of running electric trains around the christmas tree got started. I know that in some families it is passed down from generation to generation. I myself just love model trains. I even had them on my sailboat. After my daughter grew up, I had more room and could run them all over the place. I even set up tressel bridges and figured a way to crash them!
Are there any other train buffs out there with trains out for the holidays or just all the time?

Although we never had it under our Christmas tree, we did have a trian set in our basement. I remember playing with it all the time. My favorite part of it was the milk car - it had little metal milk cans in it that clipped into this round holder thing. I wish I knew what happened to it.

I'm sure my mom knows that happened to our set. I'll have to ask her. She most likely gave it away.

Yeppers, I'm a train nut. Thanks to having a couple of older brothers, I got to play with their Lionel train set every Christmas.
My husband and I both lived near the railroad tracks and for quite a while after each of us grew up and moved away we would strain our ears to try to hear the sound of the trains passing by. Now we just have a few cherished train ornaments sitting on shelves here and there. Loving trains is a common bond between us, I guess.

Since I have most of my "personal space" cluttered up with sewing machines and all of their lovely accessories, and both hubby and I have drafting tables and art supplies to waltz around, I'm afraid a miniature train set would get stepped on. How about if I draw a picture of one and machine embroider it onto some tea towels instead? But you gave me an idea! Why haven't I downloaded an animated choo choo train screen saver with real locomotive sounds? Corny, but I love those wall clocks, too, that toot on the hour.

Except for the years I was in the service, for some reason, I have always lived across a body of water from railroad tracks. There is something about the sound of a train whistle traveling across the water especially on a cold crisp morning that just makes you want to jump aboard and go somewhere.
So why don't you treat youself to an electric train? They will be at sale prices in a couple of weeks!
