An unusual evening without my wife

Well I just had one of the greatest dinners in years. It's not that the food was awesome. I ate where my wife works. Anyhow my son came over & we went to the Java meeting my daughter, her husband, and the grandsons. It was a great time being with them. Seldom am I with the family like this without the wife around. It felt strange being at her work and she wasn't there. But then again that was a good part as well. I got to spend some quality time with my kids and grandkids tonight. And I forgot the camera. HAHAHA!! The family friend never showed nor did she ever answer her phone. Her loss I say. Just wanted to share. So what did you do for dinner tonight? Do you spend quality time with some family members when one isn't there to share it as well?

Well I spent my evening at work, so I had dinner with the kids on the Crisis Stabilization Unit where kids stay on average of 7-10 days to keep from going into the hospital.
That is nice that you got to spend quality time with your family. Your wife will be back before you know it and then you all can share some quality time together as well.

So these are kids in the unit and not your kids? Or are they your kids? We will be spending some time alone the wife and I. We both need each other when she gets back. We may go see our daughter as she is fairly close to the airport. It all depends on how my wife feels after the flight and all.

I think she may want to rest but I am also going to see if
she wants to visit the daughter and grandsons as we're going
to be so close to them at the airport. Thanks.

You would be right, they are not my kids. My daughters are 18 and 21. Though they both have been hospitalized before.
I am sure your wife will want to rest up a bit, because I know the journey she is on right now will be an exhausting one for her. Especially since you said she doesn't like flying, at least I think that is what I recall you saying in a previous post.

Yes....I have to do it all the time! LOL...This weekend was my family Christmas and my kids all live too far away to attend with the exception of my son who works seven days a week and they couldn't come. So yes....I spend lots of time with my brother and sisters and their families without my family there! I still have a good time.

Well dad Chelsea would have showed had you remebered to call and tell her what time we were meeting lol. She was waiting at home but her phone never rang. She said something must be wrong with it because it never rang all day. And yes I beleive her because well her phone is broken I can tell when talking to her its all wacky. We will have to try and plan it for another day.

As I said when we talked this morning, I called a BUNCH of times. She never answered and her voice mail isn't set up. I thought about calling again right after we talked but I figured the hell with it. She knows my number or she can message me through MySpace. Yes it was fun & I hope mom is willing to come visit or shop with you and the kids after she gets back. Chat soon girl.

I'm glad you had a good time. I always think it's nice when you can get the family together like that and eat together and just be able to talk and spend time together. I bet it did feel weird with your wife not being there though. We haven't had dinner since it's only lunchtime right now. But when we do I'll be with my husband and my son and we'll be eating dinner here at home.

It was fun. I wished our friend would have shown up. But due to a lack in communication on both ends it didn't happen. Oh well. I am going to plan it again to meet her and her kids someday in the near future.

Hi Grandpa Bob!
So sorry that your friend was a no show, but I'm glad you had a great time with your kids. I bet it was weird and strange without your wife there! We didn't do anything special for supper here!

Hi GRANDPA BOB! I am so glad to know that you had a wonderful time and a quality one too with your children and grandkids. I sure know the feeling of having some quality time with the family but then the family is not complete. It is not the same but you try to make the best out of it and enjoy every minute with the rest of the family. Take care and have a nice day. :)

The only bad thing was the son-in-law was doing paperwork from

Yes, you are very correct. Many times it does happen that we are so used to spending time with somebody that we kind of forget about the existence of others in our lives. The same thing happens with me when my husband is around. Spending time with him and the kiddo takes away all my attention. its not that I resent it, but somehow I don’t seem to remember the existence of another world beyond the confines of my home. Its only when hubby goes for any office tour or kiddo goes to visit grandparents, do I get time to catch up with another life. Nothing great really…visit to the shopping mall just to kill time, catching up with friends, having a few carefree hours or days…yes it does feel nice to be able to be just ‘me’ once in a while.

Oh I had a blast. It's not often I get out for dinner without the wife with me or working when I go there. HAHAHA! I bring friends from the A.A. club ever so often for dinner when she's working as well.

Hi Grandpa Bob, It is nice to have dinner with the family, especially ones that we don't see that often. I'm glad you had a great time. Since your wife couldn't be with the rest of you, maybe being in her restaurant still gave you the feeling that part of her was with you. I'm sorry that your friend never showed up, maybe she forgot. Anyway it was her loss.:)

I am glad you had a great time with your kids. I am espically glad to hear that you had a good time with your son. I know in the past things have not been so good.

No biggie about Shorty not being there. It was still a great
time to be with family for a dinner out. I love spaghetti. My
son hates it and my daughter is indifferent about it. I gotta
have some homemade garlic/cheese bread with it though.
