My husband is to have a herniated disc repaired. Actually removed and replaced. The neurosurgeon told us about a procedure using an artificial disc. Then there is the procedure using a cadaver bone and a metal plate with 4 screws. Well, his insurance company, BC/BS, has decided in there infinite wisdom to deny the artifical disc replacement. It has already been performed on thousands of people and is approved by the FDA but...
they still think it is experimental surgery.
And get this......
The artificail replacement surgery cost is $8,000.00 and the bone cadaver surgery cost is $11,000.00. A $3,000.00 difference and they will only approve the higher cost procedure. I'll bet we end up haveing to pay most of that extra out of our pocket.
Damn how I hate insurance companies. In our house BC/BS no longer stands for Blue Cross/Blue Shield but now Blue Cross/Bull Shi*.

ever seen the movie sicko. its bout how insurance companies deny people all the time and the more claims they deny they get a bonus cuz they saving the company money. I had watched this movie and i am absolutly sick of america. everyone over seas say how its a dream come true to be able to live here and really its not. I am actually thinking about moving to canada cuz their government actually cares for thier people.

Well I would not go that far with it. America is the land of opportunity and I am proud to be an American.
However I do think being the land of opportunity gives the insurance companies a chance to deny, deny, deny, as they are not regulated enough.
I've never seen the movie sicko and have a feeling if I do my already high blood pressure would go even higher.

Oh I KNOW! I worked for a company for 7 years putting money from every paycheque into an insurance plan through my employer. Then when I became disabled they didn't want to pay me. It p*sses the living cr*p out of me!
Recently, my daughter had to get braces for $5,600. The insurance company will only pay $2,000. You can bet we have put a whole lot more than that into the insurance where my husband has worked for 22 years.
Even house insurance. We had the insurance company come out and look at our windows because they had leaked during a bad rain. Without even notifying us they cut us off our house insurance completely. It was six months before we found out that we had no house insurance coverage!!!! What would have happened if our house had burned down? The company swore they sent us a letter but couldn't come up with the proof. They withdrew our insurance because they saw mould in the walls.
Sometimes I think insurance companies are worse than lawyers! LOL!
Good luck with your husband's surgery.

Oh, our insurance changed when we paid of a mobile home years ago and we had a house, 2 vehicles and the mobile home on our insurance. The new company covered everything but the mobile home. It was 3 years before we figured it out that there was no coverage for it. NOw we can't get anyone to cover it becasue they say it sits in a flood zone. That's were it was before when the other company covered it. Duh!!

I do not think that insurance companies are scams but one thing that I know is that they are really there for the business aspect of things and not because they care som much about their customers. They would try their best to make sure that you pay your premium and that they do not have to pay you a single cent ever, if they could...
