If you felt that you were being severely under paid, how would you go about asking for a pay rise in your workplace?

It's never really been something I had to think about, I've always worked hard and my boss have always given me more money when he felt I deserved it. Pretty nice:-)

You have a great boss, congratulations. But I think in most of companies, their boss will not mentione to rise their employees salary until they requested. In my case, I just request to my manager directly according to my working time and experience.

hi Phlamingho, you're much luck than me, when i come to a new company ,A guy in human resource depart. told me "you ask too much we could not offer you so much." one year later,no changes except my age. things didnot turn better until i became desperate and decided to leap, then she told me "how can i make you stay?" too late, isn't it ?

It dosen't have to be too late, if you like your job and they are willing to pay you what you want, then you could always stay :-)

If I wanted a pay raise, I would take my job description, make a list of what I actually do, current cost of living increase, the average wage for my job with the number of years of experience and what others in the company make (if you have this information) to my boss and just ask for it. In my currently job we have gotten a yearly raise every year in the front office. Our warehouse guys have not had a rasie in 5 years, but they haven't even asked for one!

Where I work there is management and non-management thats it. There are only 2 managers, so there is no where to be promoted to. It is up to the General Manager who - if anyone - gets a pay raise. Personally, I would not go 6 years (or even 1 year) with out a pay raise.

my company rise our salary at the end of year annually, you get a chance to talk about your salary with your supervisor, if he could not meet your request, you can choose to leave,or to compromise. :)

they way ive always done it is take a week or two to really work hard and do everything with extreme care.. then at the end of the week tell your boss that you really think youve been wokring hard latley (state a few times that show this) and say that oyu really think that you deserve it. Theres no way it can be denied

I think the answer to your question depends on the countries you live in.In your country, maybe it's a normal condition that the employee ask his company for the rise of salary .But,in China,lol....yo can just get what the company gives you!You have two choice in common condition:accept or leave the company! your topic reminds my salary.... a poor man.........
