My goal for Jan 1st is to Quit I just at times don’t feel I have the will power when other times I do but still continue. I would Love to hear anything esp those who use to smoke and now has quit. What times of things will I be going through once I quit. Thank you all for your Time Stacy

Congratulations on your decision to quit. I quit using the gum and then weaned from that to spearmint gum and soon was no longer chewing. I also changed my eating habits and drank more water and started dancing to keep the pounds from adding on. You will also need someone, family or friend for support and I pray that soon, you too will be smoke free..:)

I quit smoking February this year after being a 3 pack a day smoker (I know, shame on me). To begin with, I had to just cut down how much I was relying on daily, gradually down to 2 packs, then 1, then only a few each day - You should probably start cutting down now, before January so that your withdrawals will not be so harsh as to quit Cold Turkey. Believing in yourself and having support of family and friends is essential to coming out the other end a new non-smoker. I planned to quit many times, but the temptation to continue was too strong, until I started believing that I could do it, and asked some friends for moral support. My boyfriend was probably the strongest rock for me =) I found that for me it was a rule of 3. The first 3 days were tough, but making it over them was an amazing achievement. Then getting passed 3 weeks - you're basically there. Go 3 months without, and you won't ever need to go back =) You may get grouchy, have headaches and be unhappy, but your body is trying to trick you into continuing to ruin your lungs and body. Don't let it =) Have some projects for you to complete during the time you're quitting, and focus on other things than smoking. Deep breathing is also a real help. =D Best of luck and Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

Thank you so much Malyck Its hard to believe when we are smokers how we can get that far example by smoking 3 packs a day......But you did it =) and with this support from my friends I KNOW I can do it =) I had quit once about 7 years ago for about 2 weeks before my mom was rushed to the hospital and while visiting my aunt at that time she keep saying have a smoke have a smoke, and a double whammy when I got home to my Ex husband who was doing the same. Needless to say I caved in and started again. I was so disappointed in myself and would like to try again =) Thank you so much for the kind words and advice I will be sure to work on it and keep you all posted Thanks again Stacy

I quit 2 years ago and have absolutely no desire to ever smoke again. In fact, it repulses me. There are 3 things I can tell you about quitting. One is try not to replace smoking with food, candy or gum. That might make you gain weight and that will make it harder not to start again. Try replacing it with something you do with your hands that is more productive. I started crocheting when I first quit. It kept my hands busy, and helped fill that void. The second thing is that you will have cravings. But if yo are strong during your cravings, they will pass. It takes only 7 days to get over the physical addiction to nicotine. If you make it that far without smoking, the rest is all up to you. Find something to divert your attention when you have cravings, and wait them out until they pass. For me it was no more than 15 minutes. I used to hop in the shower a lot when I was home and had a craving. Smoking is very unclean to me, so maybe I was washing it off. There were times when I showered 2 or 3 times in a day. Finally, try to avoid triggers whenever possible, at least in the beginning. When you can't avoid them, be sure to anticipate them and have extra support. I bought a new car a month or so before I quit, and I never smoked in it. I didn't want it to stink. So when I quit, I had already broken the habit of smoking while driving, my biggest weakness. That made it a lot easier. Have faith in yourself and be strong- you CAN do it.
