thank you to those that replied to my last discussion about collecting. i noticed that some of you collect old postcards, a hobby that i am hoping to begin. i was given several older postcards from the detroit area (circa 1930's) - i am interested in collecting postcards from the early 1900's and dont have a special subject that i want to collect. any one have some tips, ideas and things to look for for a beginner collector?

hi i suggest that you must first decide what subject you want to collect or you end up spending dollars.. in the end you might not even like the cards that you bought.. ebay is a great source of vintage postcards. or why not participate in postcard road shows or auctions..

It is difficult to palce hands on old cards, because there are many collectors. In India, there are several philatelic dealers who sell these cards approximately at $1 per card. I used to collect the old cards and for the the postal marks with stamps are important and I do have some in my collection. If you are keen on collecting new cards, you let me know I can send by post on reciprocation basis.

I have always liked postcards , although I have never collected them, but if I were tostart I would like the ones with old bridges , monuments , something with a real history behind it or story ... happy collecting !!!
