Ok thought I'd get some opinions on what has happened to me here in the last couple months. Ok so I'm at college baseball player in TN. I've played baseball my whole life and baseball is the only thing that I had to get me into college. I wasnt that focused in high school enough to actually get an academic schlorship. Now I'm stuck in the situation where I had shoulder surgery and now there is a 50/50 chance that I won't be able to play again. The school says that since I hurt it playing ball at the school that they would have to let me stay for my four years even thought I'm not able to play. But the factor of the matter is that theres a chance that I won't be able to do what I've done my entire life. I cant really quit thinking about it cause I'm not able to work so all I do is sit at the house and try to stay busy. If theres any athletes or anybody that has had to give ssomething up because of surgery or injury or actually any other reason fill me in on how you handled it.

OK, I'm not an athlete, but I do have a bit of advice. Even if you can never actually play baseball again, there are still ways to stay involved in a sport you love. Consider coaching a kid's ball team, becoming a sportswriter or color commentator, or some other sports-related career. A guidance counselor may be able to give you some advice in that direction. You may find your injury a blessing in disguise that leads you to a successful career in another aspect of the game.

Yeah ive thought about that. but another thing that really bugs me is that if i cant play again that means that i can't throw again. That means that I can't throw the ball with my son when the day comes that I have one. The thought of not being able to somewhat pass down what I have done my entire life bugs me.

As a child and up until my junior year of high school I was in track and ran cross country. I sprang the ligaments in my knee several times. I was told the last time if I sprant them again they would proberly tear which would mean surgery, lots of pain and off my feet for a long time. Being a teenager this was not an option. So I had to find other things to do with my time. Humm I started skipping schhool, partying and being a not so good girl. I went from a 4.8 GPA whereI graduated with a 2.83. I skipped the whole second semeester of my senior year so had to graduate in the summer. I didn't take it so well as it was my life and I had to give up part of it. I should have adjusted better but didn't. Being young and stupid I didn't think.

Well I can see what your saying but i havent taking to that extreme yet. I havent even been able to start rehab yet. I think when I can start that it will keep my mind busy. I just dont want to end up at the point where I can't throw at all. I dont want to get to the point that when ever I have a son that I wont be able to go out and throw the ball with him.

You said 50/50 chance. That's different from 0 chance. So undergo rehab after surgery. Make sure you stretch and warm up well before a game or practice. Maybe you'll still be able to play again. If not, well baseball is not the only sport. Try something that's not very strenuous on the shoulder.
