I have a very sweet tooth, I love my sugar but I am trying to eat better, lose weight and look after my health, do you think or know if raw sugar is better for you, or does anyone know the benefits of raw sugar over white sugar, is it worth changing....

Raw sugar is better for you then white sugar. White sugar is very processed. In that processing, things change and such. Usually when eating healthy they say to stick with things that are brown. Brown are more natural items. Brown rice, brown flour (wheat, whole grain), brown breads. All of these things are better for you. The processing methods used for making things white are often complex and not so good for us!

Raw sugar is less processed and more flavoursome. I don't know what the exact health benefits are, but it is a lot better for cooking (unless otherwise stated for specific cakes etc). I've always preferred raw sugar, brown sugar and honey for sweetening. That's just the way I was brought up and personal preference, I don't know the statistics or whatever =P

if you are trying to loose weight then none of these 'sugars'would be good for you. you should try artificial sweeteners like Splenda. they can really help to cut the calories and make you loose the weight. but if you don't feel like changing your diet then you should try to exercise.

research on artificial sweeteners indicates that regular refined white sugar (harmfull as it is to Health) is still the better way. I used to work in a Factory that used an artificial sweetener to sweeten Cool-Aid. The women who packed that product had no end to trouble. Their arms broke out in a rash, their throats swelled shut, and they suffered from various other health disorders.

Raw sugar is supposedly healthier than white one but i am not sure why.Maybe it contains some of the fibers or stuff...I think it is recommended for low calorie diets, so maybe it also has less calories.Where i live raw sugar is much expensive and its not easy to buy for all sweets. But whenever i have tried it in my coffee i liked it better.

its great you are looking after your health. im not sure what the difference is to be honest. i know brown and white sugar also powdered. raw might be a different term or it is raw before made into white. not sure what the difference would be health wise.

I have absolutely switched buying from processed white sugar to brown, muscovado sugar, a long time ago. Muscovado sugar is more pricey but I prefer this one than the white sugar. Primarily, muscovado is more healthy, organically produced and cooked without chemicals. Plus, I like the tase. I beleive it is worth changing...

Raw sugar is definitely better for you, I have been using it for years; it's more natural than white sugar, as it is less refined. White sugar has been refined and bleached, so it can't be good for you.

I couldn't really say if one is healthier than the other but I prefer the taste of demerara sugar (brown) which I think could be the same as raw. I would guess that white sugar is less healthy because it's been processed more. If you are trying to be healthy I would suggest giving up sugar - your taste will gradually adapt to having drinks etc withou the added sugar. :-)
