Have you heard about this case in the Czech Rep? Two little girls were born almost a year ago. The father of one of the girls wondered about his fatherhood, as the kid did not resemble anybody in the family, so he had a DNA test done. The test determined he was not the father! Imagine his anguish and perhaps even the mistrust he must have felt then! He also had his wife tested and that determined that she was not the mother of the kid either! The hospital was then approached and they discovered that the babies had been exchanged when two nurses removed their ID's from their wrists, caused perhaps by the fact that the two had the same name. The other parents were contacted and the babies were eventually returned to the right parents, but can you imagine the situation? Had I been a parent, I would have found it very traumatic to have to return "my" baby so as to get my "real" biological one! After all, I had raised that baby from birth thinking it was my own and suddenly I have to part ways! I guess the two babies are young enough and they will soon recover from the experience, but I keep thinking about the two mothers and what they had to go through! The mistake was found in this case, but I wonder how many other cases like this happen around the world every day!

hmmm it would be awful, I must say how observant the father was, as I always think that babies never look like anyone in the family, they all look the same to me, so give the man a gold star...

Thanks for your comment! I think the father was observant, but also daring! Fancy having a DNA test and then finding it was negative! Imagine his thoughts, as he wonders who the father might be! The mistrust of the mother, maybe, until a second test confirms neither is parent! This is a nightmare I am sure nobody would like to live through!

If I remember correctly, there was also a switch of newborn babies here in our country. The family who are well-off were determined to sue the hospital but the other family only accepted the monetary help the hospital gave them. This other family are poor and as they have explained they badly need the money. But in this case, it was the hospital that contacted the two families because they have learned about the accidental switch of the babies. The babies have already spent more than a week in the wrong family and that's why the well-off family have decided to go on filing a case against the hospital and the people involved in the incident.
