Do you go to a doctor as soon as you get an ache or pain?

Do you call your doctor immediately? - group of doctors

I used to run to my doctor with every little ache and pain I got but now I don't bother. It seems every time I did it ended up in my going to some sort of specialisty who sent me for x-rays and ended up not knowing what was wrong with me. I finally gave up and just deal with whatever it is now and try to take care of it myself. It's not the best way to be I know but it's working for me. What do you do when you get a new ache or pain? Do you call your doctor and make an appointment or just wait it out hoping it will go away?

certainly not, i hate waiting at the drs office to see him! since health care is free here in ontario (canada) there is generally a long line to see the dr, so i would much rather self medicate than run to the dr.

I'm very lucky because when I have an appointment at the clinic I go to they usually take me as soon as I get there.

I seldom go to the doctor except for my yearly exam. I have been blessed with good health and very seldom feel ill. I depend on my immune system to fight off colds and infections. I do have aches and pains in my arms and hands from working in a factory for 25 years, and although I'm not there anymore I still get a twinge if I do anything too strenuous, so I've just learned to take it easy (or get someone else to do it!) when my RPI's flare up.

I hardly ever go to the Doctor. I rarely get sick. If I do get a virus, I dont bother going to the Doctor, as they can't cure viruses. I almost never have antibiotics. When I broke my foot & tore ligaments in a shipping centre two years ago, I drive myself home. Two days later I drove myself to hospital. I came home with plaster from my foot to my knee.

I try to listen to my body, ctry, and can usually tell when it is something serious enough to warrant a visit to my doctor. I do know that as I age I am getting more and more little aches and pains. I know that these just go along with aging, so I just try to stay active and ignore them.

lol...my soul sister! I'm just figuring that out and realizing that these new aches and pains are only the signs of age so I don't bother calling the doctor any more and deal with it.

When I start to feel sick I try and do everything I can do on my own before I go to the doctor. I try and fight it off myself first. In the last few years, doctors here won't give you anything unless you've been sick for a few days. The idea is to get your body to fight things on its own and not for it to rely on medications. I've noticed that I have been sick fewer times in the last few years too.

I evaluate the ache and decide. If its unbearable i would visit a doctor. If it is just an ache i would try painkiller and think what has caused it.Later, after 1 day or so with ache insisting, and depending on what pain it is i would visit the doctor. Depends on the pain of course.

no, most certainly not. I don't have the time to go to the doctor whenever I have an ache or a pain. The doctor in Ireland can cost up to 60euro, at the least it will be 40. So that acts as a disincentive to go.

I have to be really really sick before i go to a doctor. When i was younger i went a lot but not now.I seem to be better now that i am older than i was when i was younger. My husband goes to a doctor like you are talking about and he runs so many test and i think it is just a money making racket..He actually has not found anything out about him that we did not already know.I do have a good doctor though and i will go if i feel i need to.

I had a lot of aches and pains, even small ones. But I do not go right away to see a doctor whenever I feel one. For me it is a waste of money since you will pay for the check up and other stuff. If the pain is minor and still manageable then I won't see a doctor yet.

The only time I go to the doctor is if the ache or pain is severe. I don't run to the doctor for every little thing, headaches, colds, etc. However, I am not sick with a cold or anything very often, maybe once every 3-5 years, I have had the flu one time in my life. I have however known people that made a big thing out of every little ache or pain or rash.

I don't like going to the doctors for every little pain. first off all if you cry fire! all the time no one would believe you when the real fire starts so I prefer to wait the next day to see what happens. If it still hurts then I start worrying but if it hurts less then I don't go to the doctor if it hurts the same or more then I do.

I will always wait. It's pretty bad becuase normally I'll wait untill it's really bad. Like I waitted the last time and I had to go to the ER because my asmah (I can't spell that) was so bad I couldn't lay down at all with out having an attack. So I went to the ER and spent the day there and had breathing treatments. But usually if you just do what you think you should do (get rest, med. ect) the problem goes away.

No I generally don't have a tendency to go to the doctor for any kind of small problems I feel that we all should try not to go to the doctor each and every time because they will give us and ought of medicines which are not always good for the health. And apart from that if we go to the doctor for small problems like headaches on etc and we consume medicines for that our body starts to get immune to those medicines and later on when we will have headaches like we're getting now those medicines won't help as our body is immune to those kinds of medicines. Instead it would be a better idea to take preventive measures so that we don't have such problems

I hate going to the doctor and I also hate waiting for endless hours. After all that invariably he will ask you to get a number of tests done.I go to a doctor only if its something very serious and I want to rule out the worst.I am one for taking medicines too.So if its something I can put up with I will never take any medication.

I don't have a doctor. And if I did, I wouldn't go to the doctor for every ache or pain. I would just take an aspirin.Besides I don't trust doctors.

I rarely visit a doctor unless it is necessary..if the pain I feel is tolerable I deal with it alone, but there are times when our body can;t take it anymore like when I had this backpain..so severe that i could hardly sit up..I was rushed to the hospital and we found out I had a very high infection in the urinary tract..

Funny I just went to the doctors today. Last month I had a bout of bronchitis and did go to the doctor. Now you have to realize, I'm the type that has to be practically dying before I do go to one, so no not rushing to a doctor. Think I get that from my great-grandmother who was a nurse and thought most docs were idiots. She was into natural and herbal cures and she never took anything stronger than aspirin and lived to be 98! But yes, I went today as that bronchitis never really cleared up one-hundred percent and I was feeling worse. As for aches and pains. Nope, don't go. I used to get terrible carpel tunnel problems but have my own herbal way of healing it and haven't had a attack of it in months and months.
