Duplicate discussion topics.

I recently was getting ready to post a discussion, so I did a search to see what discussions already exist on the topic. When my search produced no results, I went ahead and started the discussion, only to find- in the related discussions at the bottom of the page, that there are similar discussions already posted. First, I apologize to anyone whose discussion I may appear to have duplicated. I promise, it was not on purpose. Second, why am I not getting search results? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I've done this before too...I've searched and found that there were no discussions only to start a discussion and find lots of 'similar' discussions. I'm not sure if I did anything wrong while searching....but it's happened to me too.

I know it depends on the tags you use, because sometimes the 'similar' discussions are anything but!

It happens to the best of us! It's ok, though- this one is pretty old, so I won't hold it against you.

Some people use different tags for the same topic discussion or they use no tags at all. That's one way the discussion doesn't show up when you search for it. Also you may think of different keywords/tags while someone else may have put something close or far off. There is also the factor of members adding in tags, that could also throw off your search if they add tags they feel are appropriate (but could be very different from what you expected). Do not worry about duplicate discussions too much, especially if some months have passed between the last discussion and your discussion. Making duplicate discussions one after another in days or hours of each other is something to avoid. One or both topics maybe deleted.
