Do you and your spouse have your own private Christmas and then a family one?

My husband and I have our own Christmas first. Usually we get each other something fun or private to exchange or even expensive (not this year, I wish). Then we have a Christmas with everyone else and have another present for that time. If you have a private Christmas, why? Ours is to promote togetherness (we seldom have time with each other) and to give presents the rest of the family might not appreciate or be jealous of.

I wish we did this! Maybe we will institute this tradition if we ever move closer to family and don't leave the state for Christmas like we do now. Usually I love Christmas, but in order for both my ex and I to spend the holiday with the children it means travel. Long travel! It is getting wearing. We have discussed alternating the holiday, but neither one of us want to give one up, so we spend it together. We are friends, so its not a big deal. I haven't even set up one tree yet. I am trying to decide if I am going to bother this year. My parents house will be decorated to the max and we will be there the week of Christmas. That might be enough. We'll see. I love your idea of private Christmas though!

Our families don't live very far. So we have our private X-mas in the AM and see them in the PM. Yes, going far away would make it tougher to do. Maybe you can sneak off. . ..

Hun and I have Christmas morning... the kids usually don't come until noon. We don't exchange gifts, but we have our scrambled eggs, coffee and Christmas stollen with the tree lit, in the lovely calm before the storm.
