cable tv providers, rip-off or good value

I have subscribed to cable TV with all the premiumn channels for many years. Today, I reached a point where I am ready to do something."I'm fed up with seeing the same movies over and over and over". They show a movie on HBO then move it to Cinemax then Encore and before you know it, it has been around over a year. With all the cable subscribers, you know these companies take in mucho money. Now, look at many of the movies they show, one star, low cost and probably won't watch it any way unless you're bored out of your mind. If you subscribe to cable, do you think you get a good selection of movies ? Are the movies rotated on a regular basis ? What do you like the best and worst about your cable provider ?

I agree they do show the same movies over and over. However, it is better than not getting tv at all. That happened to us. We went with direct tv. as soon as leaves grew on trees we were S.O.L. no reception at all for weeks. and with a 3 yr old wanting to watch the same program as her cousins are that won't fly. So back to cable we are and plan to stay repeat after repeat or not.

We had considered switching to one of the satelite companies but I guess they all have drawbacks. Also, I have my computer and phone service with the cable provider. Perhaps I'll do what one of the other guys did, just get expanded basic and if I really want to see a movie I'll rent it.

That is pretty much what we did. We have expanded basic. They have more educational channels. Like Discovery health, not just for the child. I like that too. ANd then we got a netflix account. So we rent. And the movie we want comes to us!

I agree. I used to have the movie lineup until I also realized that most of these movies were old and over played. Most of the movies they played were the same movies you could catch on clearance at walmart. And yes, they charge too much money. The only thing I like about my cable company is the internet, super fast and hardly ever down. The tv part, its ok. Like I said, I have extended basic but no movie channels.

I think I'll consider switching to expanded basic service. I too, have my computer and phone service with the cable provider. If the TV service was as good as the computer and phone service, I wouldn't have a complaint.

We are satisfied with just the expanded basic too and are fortunate that we can get that at an affordable price both here and at our vacation home. When we are there, we don't like the ComCast service, which is presently the only one available, as well as we like the Cablevision lineup, but with creative use of our TIVO we make do. Also what we saved by not paying for HBO, etc, more than paid for the TIVO lifetime subscription. Bummer that they are not selling those any more.
