what is exactly is this interest Rankings?

I saw an alert on my account this morning saying that there is going to be an upgrade on the interest rankings.
I never understood what this meant so I have decided to ask you mylotters.

You are ranked level 13 in mylot.com next to your user name it will tell you what your ranking is in the particular category I just responded to something in movies and I was a level 8 I don't respond to alot in that category it says the rankings are based on how much you use that category and how well your discussions fit the category I don't know who rates it or what the highest level is though anyone know?
