That the Pope is Catholic hardly seems like news, but what he has to say about Global Warming certainly is news. Read about it here.

So, has anyone read about the Pope's position on this issue in a US source? What do you think of the Pope's position on this issue? Does infallibility apply in this case?

Hello Red,
I applaud the Pope for recogninzing how much of this Man-Made Global Warming farce is nothing but politicos attempting to manipulate mankind for political and financial reasons.
I'm not sure what you mean when you ask about infallibility applying in this case. Do you mean the Pope's alleged infallibility, or the alleged infallibity of the GW argument?
There are a few certainties, and the rest is simple guesswork. Not even educated guess work, because none can argue that meteorologists cannot predict the weather 5 days out, let alone 10, 20, or more years into the future?
Here's what is certain:
1. The Earth vascillates between warming and cooling trends.
2. Without CO2, life on this planet would cease to exist! Simple CO2, is completely harmless. CO2 is not Carbon Monoxide, the poison. CO2 is a vital, necessary part of our atmosphere, and life cycle.
3. Algae blooms are the single largest source of CO2 on this planet, not trees.
4. Man-made Gw stands to put billions upon billions of dollars into politically specific organizations.
5. Purchasing global warming off-sets is as much of a snowjob as Dr. Smith's all-purpose,super healing tonic. Racket, crock, scam, scheme, etc... .
5. Pollution sucks! The GW argument is an attempt for environmentally conscious folks to get everyone on board with their environmental concerns. I would applaud their efforts if they were simply reminding us to be good environmental stewards. Instead, they are using the environment for political and financial gain. Shame on them!
6. Lastly, personal and corporate pollution both suck! Instead of spending billions on GW research, we should be directing those research funds into developing alternatives for the consumer and industry, so that pollution might one day be nothing more than a bad memory. If the free market were infused with billions to find alternatives to polluting technologies, we'd sure as shooting see those alternatives emerge in the marketplace.
Now, about the Pope's having publicized his views on GW: I generally do not support public personalities volunteering their views, unless they are scientifically qualified to do so. However, the Pope is expected to express his views on all manner of issues. The Faithful seek the Pope's guidance, that they might alter their behaviours to me more in line with 'being good Catholics'. Incidentally, I was born & raised Catholic, so I think I can get away with the 'good Catholic' remark. In this way, the Pope is just like anyone else who is asked their views -- he's entitled to his opinion. The good news is that before any Pope just willy-nilly shares his perspective, he spends much time in both research and contemplation on the matter.
In the end, the Pope seems to be in line with the population at large. The more people research man-made global warming arguments, the more likely they are to find them fabricated, erroneous, highly manipulative, and overwhelmingly B.S.

Thanks, for the great response.
What I meant as to infallibility, is that in certain circumstances, when the Pope says so, his statements are considered correct without fail. I was wondering if the Pope put the stamp of Papal Infallibility on his Global Warming statement. I wouldn't think that he would, but it would be neat, if he did.

I think the Pope is correct in his assessment.
I recently read an article that showed Global Warming has already ended, that we are now in a Global Cooling trend and that man was never responsible for it.
As far as infallibility, no one is infallible, not even the Pope, and certainly not a bunch of activist scientists who are trying to prove something no matter what the facts may say to the contrary.

Not only is the Pope correct, he must have an apptitude for science or some really talented advisors he trusts very much. Either way, good for the Pope.

The daily mail is not a US source and link does not work. Papal claims to infallibility are blasphemous

Infallibility only applies when he "speaks from the chair" which he was not doing at that time or he would have stated it emphatically. However, that does not mean that he is well informed on worldly matters. I mean the Pope still thinks its ok to have a dozen kids even if you can't support them. By the way, just how often do you see any US reporters even bothering to write abbout what the Pope has to say?
The last thing I saw written up by US papers was when the Pope did speak "from the chair" and said that Hell was a physical place. A couple of reporters did some tongue in cheek articles on that.
