What do you do with clothes your baby outgrows?

I just went through a few boxes of clothes that my son wore when he was a baby, and I brought them to a consignment shop to be resold. A lot of them were given to me, and some I gave to a friend who has a baby, but she has a girl, so most she couldn't use. It was hard to part with a lot of them- I did keep some, like the outfit he wore home from the hospital, and his first christmas outfit. What do you do? Give them away, sell them, keep them?

We have kept all the clothes we brought for our son as we were planning on having more children. I have put them all in a box and have put them in a safe place for if we want them again. Some of the clothes will be ok to use or a boy or girl because they arn't too boyish. I just wouldn't dress a boy in girls clothes likes laced socks and dresses or anything pink. There are alot of clothes i don't want to get rid of just because they are the clothes my son came home from hospital in and his favourite top etc.... I think its important to save clothes your children wear as babies because it reminds you how small they were when they were a baby. ~Joeys wife

I have kept quite afew of them in the past, and gave much of them away. We also have consigned things as well. There is a new single-mother in our church, and i will be giving almost the rest of the clothes to her (today actually) as we are waiting for a few years to have our next and last child.. (who will hopefully be a girl, so we may not need them anyways) I just thought, she would appreciate them as much as i have.. so I wanted them to go to better use than storage.. I will however keep the outfits that both of my boys came home from the hospital in and a few other special ones that I cannot part with..

I have given all the children's outgrown clothing away except for the few stained up items. I did not give them away too quickly though I held on to number one's for about 8 years, I kept most of #2born's and #3born's used them, I am getting old now and figure my chances of having another are pretty slim - I have given most of number 3's outgrowns away, some she keeps as she has a doll that is able to wear size 6x clothing, my daughter is wearing a size 7-8 right now.

I usually give them to some of the less fortunate relatives of mine. Some of them may go to our helper's children.

It depends, like right now I know someone who is smaller than my son, so I give his outgrown clothes to him. If I didn't know anyone, I would donate them to the local thrift shop.

I kept most of my first child's stuff because I knew we wanted another child. Most of my second child's clothes that I like, I have kept them to pass it on to my sister when she has her baby...some I have given to my neighbour who had her baby 4 months after I did...and some I have given to the household help. My mother kept my sister's crib and baby blanket all these years and handed them to me when I had my first child. My younger son also used them and it's all in good condition and will most probably be given to my sister when she has her baby.

Well there are some that I keep. I still have a box that I will never get rid of :) Other than that I used to give them to friends that had younger kids than mine or even to charities. I don't like to throw them out, specially since kids grow up so fast often the clothes are still almost new.

I been organizing out my closets finding my 3 yr old son baby clothes which I was going to give to my brother when he has kids but he hasn't had any and I needed more room in our closet so I gave them to some of my friends and they took them to salvation army.

I haven't been able to part with my daughter's baby clothes yet. Part of me hopes that I'll have another girl and part of me just can't let go of those days in her life. I think eventually I'll probably sell her clothes when I know for sure I won't have any more kids. But it probably won't be until she is 25 though. Maybe by then I'll be able to let go.

Hi Sillychick, I have no children yet, but if I were in your place, I would surely keep the first clothes and shoes my child wore. Maybe, the rest, I will give them off to the needy ones, give them off to the charity stores, for eg. Salvation Army Family Store, etc. Besides, I would parcel and send them to the third-world countries because what is not much valuable for the people living in developed countries can really be a blessing for people living in the third-world countries. That's all I can say for now, cheers and God bless!!!!

I gave all of Marcus clothes size 0 to about 9 months when we moved. We donated all of our stuff to St Vincent de Paul so they could find people who needed it. Since then I have put the stuff that is in really good condition in a box and stored it in the closet for our next baby. There is a hope in me that we have a baby girl and won't need it. Of course I am not pregnant so I am probably thinking about it way too much. But it is something I have been wanting lately... Anyway, I am not one to sell them. I would rather keep them and give them away to a friend or family member eventually, or give them to a charity that will find people who could use them. I was given so many things and it was such a blessing, I love blessing others...

I keep the out fit they come home from and the rest I give to others that I know are having a baby. Or maybe a friend knows a friend kind of thing. But now I have a girl and I don't know anyone who is going to have a girl so I might just donate them to a local group.

I either sell them or donate them. Some of the clothes are perfectly fine, but not nice enough for a consignment shop or eBay. Those that are not nice enough, but perfectly useful get donated.
