Weird Things Your Cat Will Eat

December 13, 2007 9:12am CST
I'm sure I spend 99% of my time with them saying, "drop that!" and it's certainly not like they're not well fed! My cats will eat all of the following (but not limited to): Tinsel, plastic bags, fluff, paper, string, lace and pompoms. One of them also has to be kept out of reach of full coffee cups as if you turn your back she'll start lapping it out of the mug. She's the same one who eat through the sleeve of my new lacey bolero top. The worst one I think was when Mr. was cutting his toenails and before he'd cleaned them up, you guessed it, she started chomping on the pile. That made me feel extremely nauseous!

Oh my, the toe nails thing got me. It's amazing what cats will eat sometimes. My cats get into a lot of the things your cats get into also. Especially the tinsel, string, and paper. I used to work at an animal hospital and after seeing a few surgeries performed on cats that got into string and even sewing needles, I'm very paranoid over what my cats, and even the dogs, get into. I don't know what the weirdest thing is any one of my cats have gotten into but odd foods they like to eat (more like steal away from whoever happens to be eating it) are things like potato chips, ice cream, chocolate milk and even certain cakes. I have weird cats =D

You worked in an animal hospital? I bet you have the strangest stories! I know I have to keep plastic bags away from them, because I've heard horror stories from people who've had to help pull the whole thing out the other end when the cat had swallowed it. It's mad what they'll eat! And they're supposed to be smarter than dogs!

I've read that they like plastic bags because there's some sort of fish oil or byproduct used to make them that the cat's sensitive taste can pick up. One of my girls, Voodoo is forever being caught chomping on them. We have to keep a real eye on her because the plastic can obviously damage their insides. Silly things. When you've seen one run into a wall and then carry on like nothing happened or whack their heads on a table with a loud "thud" and keep on running, you have to wonder how much smarter they really are!

Yep, I did. Oh yea, I have lots of strange stories. Lots of happy and sad ones too. Oh man, I've never heard of a plastic bag horror story. A whole plastic bag? Wow. That must have been awful! My cats love to play with or sleep on plastic bags if they're able to steal one after grocery shopping is done. I never really thought anything of it but now I think I'll watch them more carefully. I know one of my cats just LOVES to eat paper and cardboard. I'm not sure why and it's impossible to get her to quit it because she always runs right back to it. Silly cat. They're supposed to be smarter than dogs, yep, but with some of them you have to really wonder, you know? Lol.

Well I certainly think you win the prize on weird things cats will eat. I used to have a cat that loved to eat the blood and bone fertiliser and even worse he would vomit it up and then eat it again (the vomit that is). The most unusual thing my current cat eats is tinned pineapple - he absolutely loves it and will steal it when he can. He also loves tomatoes and rockmelon as well.

The pineapple thing is so cute and quirky! That really made me smile! The vomit thing is horrid though! *lol*

Right now I think the worst thing our female cat eats is tape, like the kind you use on presents. They eat an odd assortment of human food - like waffles and oatmeal - and various non-food items - the male likes the dried grass Hawaiian skirts, but refused to eat fresh grass.

I suppose as long as the cats are making me feel sick as opposed to getting sick, it's not too bad! A carving knife? Eek! x
