Im am extremely upset that they have stopped making baby cold medicines. Im sorry, but I dont think that the rest of us parents who are responsible enough to give our children the proper dosage should be punished because a few people did not. My son who is 8 months old has a cold and cant take anything for it. I feel so bad for him. I have given him tylenol/motrin and it doesnt help becuase the poor guy is soo congested. I have gone in the bathroom and turned on the hot water to let the steam loosen his cough and nose up, but that only helps for a short time. This frustrates me to No end I cant even tell you how mad I am about this. What do you think? Are you as upset as I am?

I so hear ya, momma...though I have heard from the docs that those medicines don't work anyway and that is why parents ended up overdoses their kids. Think about it. If the medicines didn't work b/c the kiddies were too young, then the parents wouldn't really think about it, but would give them more...hence the too tiny kids would get too much and OD. But I do get what you are saying, b/c my 5 month old had a cold too, but I found that a humidifier by their bed at night, adding some Kaz or Vicks to the cup works wonders! Then I just clean her nose out during the day before she eats especially.

yeah, they do make liquid echinacea...i used to take it. And I proper my baby up also....it only helps so much. The nasal congestion...at least for as small as my babe is can't really be helped too much. Just suctioning it out. It works and she only cries a little...she realizes that she can breath better after I'm done.

No, I am not upset at all. Improper dosage was not the only problem with baby cold medicine. Some contained ingredients that could be harmful and even deadly even when given the proper dose of medicine. Also, there is evidence that the medicines are completely ineffective. I would not give my baby cold medicine even if it was available. Instead, try saline drops in the nose. Put a few drops in, then after a couple of minutes use a bulb syringe to clear out the nostrils. It does help. Prop up the crib mattress by putting a pillow under it. This helps relieve the pressure in the head and makes it easier to sleep. Put a vaporizer in the room to keep the air humid. Other than that, just remember that most colds only last a few days to a week at the most. Anything that lasts longer could be something more and should be checked out by a doctor.

From what I understand they have not stopped making all the medicines, just the combination ones. The girl I work with is currently giving her 4 months old trimenic for nasal congestion and chest congestion (per the Drs orders). I suggest you call you doctor for a dosage and pick up a bottle.

I have those now, but they dont work as well as the others did.. Even my Doctor is peeved about this situation. Im going to see if she cant prescribe something that we can keep around here just in case. They do still have prescription multi cold symptom meds...You just cant buy it over the counter anymore. So I hope everyone has some form of insurance or another. It still upsets me that this happened. Thanks for the info though..I bet there arent people that know that and have been going cold turkey on their kids. Have a nice night! :)
