Get yourself a water spray, put some clean water in it and you use it on him whenever he barks. They are a bit like cats and they don't really like it and it is a good way to help curb that habit of theirs. There is a few ways to help your dog along in learning but he must know you are boss and give him a treat when he is good or a pat and say good boy. He will learn faster that way.

I used to love watching the lady on TV who trained dogs, she was so good, she seemed to know the mind of the dogs, I think she performed miracles, she used to work on the lines of turning your back on the dog and keep doing it until he learnt that barking didn't get him attention a lot of of it was to make sure the dog did not get a reaction from you for being bad but given a reward when he is good.

There are few different things that you can do. I've tried all of these methods on my dog and they all have various levels of success. You can either ignore his barking habit, I know this can get really annoying because they tend to bark louder when you ignore then, and he'll stop because you're not paying attention. Second choice, they have spray trainers that spray when they bark. I have one that sprays citronella at his face, doesn't hurt them at all, but I've found that this does not work too well but it mainly depends on the dog and making sure you can get a good fit. The last resort is to use a spray bottle filled with water and only use when he's doing something bad. This is working for us right now because it grabs his attention and he'll look and see what we are telling him not to do. Good luck and be patient as it will take alot of work and time.

You need to show him you are the "boss". Many dogs don't obey the owners, they sit on the couch, and if you want to sit there, they will not get out from it. That's common. Also, with that dogs, you have to be carefull, if you get too stressfull with him, he can be dangerous. Dogs that don't obey, have the "ability" to think they are the ones in charge, so you, in this case, are his slave. You need to have consistency, and compassion. For example, if your dog does someone bad, say "bad dog" and don't give him a biscuit. If he does a good thing do the opposite "good dog" with biscuit. But remember to do this always when your dog acts, if you let lots of hours pass away he won't remember what he did wrong and why are you screaming at him. Dog's don't know what is right or wrong, you need to show them. They also needs to know who is the leader and the follower. You can see more info here http://www.free-dog-training.org/How_to_Make_Your_Dog_Obey_You.html . I wish you good luck and patience :)

I am sorry to post again, but i forgot that maybe your dog has any problem. Dogs feel problems, diseases. Barking a lot can be some consequence of something. This can be another explanation about the barking issue.
