OH THE PAIN. Insurance or lawyer?

Last night my kids and wife took me out to eat for my birthday, which is Monday the 17th of December. On our way back home from Indianapolis I was driving and I come up to this intersection. All of the sudden this car on my left decided she would try to cross the road when I was within 40 feet away from the intersection. I was on a US highway so I was travelling between 50 adn 55. I slam on my brakes, slam the horn and turn to the right hoping to miss the car...no good. I slam the van into the side of her. She seemed ok but my youngest daughter (the one who has had 3 brain surgeries). They ambulance her to the hospital. My other 3 kids were ok. I was still in shock. Finally we get to go. So my wife and youngest daughter was in the hospital. I was driving to go get them. On my way there I start having chest pains and my whole left side is killing me. Needless to say I get checked out at the hospital and at 2:30 in the morning we get to go home. No serious injuries but some that may very well complicate my daughter's brain deformity as well as my wifes. What should I do. Should I let the insurance company take care of it or should I get one of those personal injury lawyers?

Sorry that this happened to you and your family! I am glad that no one was killed in the accident! I have always been told that if the Insurance companies do not want to work with you. Then you have to get a Lawyer.. and Insurance companies are in business to make money. So they really do not want to work with you the way that you would like them too. So folks usually have to get a Lawyer. Most lawyers don't make money unless you make money, so they work harder for you! I hope in the long run that you get what you and your family deserves!

My main reason for getting a lwyer was that I did not have the time to devote to working with the insurance company. For that reason I was very happy to get a lawyer. Yeah it may take a while longer to get the money but in the long run it will be well worth it. My wife and I were figuring it up and found that we will not only be able to get out of debt we will be able to buy a house and 2 cars (not new they depreciate too much) and still be able to set back some money for the kids college and have extra to help some people out who really need it. We are excited about what God is doing.

I am glad that you all are better and it was a good thing to get a lawyer because the insurance companys don't want to give very much money and if they do not have the right kind of coverage they can take offer you a small amount and thats what they do anymore and also try to think positive you hate to say it but it could have been worse.

Thank you for your kind words. It has been over a year and just this week we received the first of the money from the accident. We did not need the moeny so this is a good thing. This first amount was not much because it was for the kids that did not get hurt in the accident. We knew that would be a small amount. We ahve a few more months before negotiations on the other ones will be done. You are right the insurance did not want to give us hardly anything. I am glad we went with a lawyer as well.
