What's your opinion of beauty pageants?

With the Miss World coming up in Sanya, Hainan in a couple weeks....
My husband compares them to meat displays in the market, and doesn't believe a woman should be judged by how good she looks in a swim suit.
Is he the only man on the planet who believes that?
Are beauty pageants good or bad?

I am kind of excitted for my daughter to be in a pagent if she so chooses. (I really hope she wants too lol) But I think that if the person really does care about world peace or whatever and uses their popularity to actually do good in the world than they are great.
