Which is faster Cable or DSL? I have never had DSL but am thinking of switching. Is there a big difference in the speed, or just a little difference? Can you use Vonage with DSL? Does anyone know?

I have dsl.I havent ever used cable, but i can say dsl are more stable, although bad thing is the speed is determined on how many users use internet at your section.About speed, comparison can be done anytime, just by checking the speed info.My dsl is 768/192 that means 768 download 192 upload. If your cable provides higher speeds then its faster, simple as that.I dont know what vonage is, sorry.

Vonage is a voice over internet provider (VOIP). In other words, your phone service goes through your internet service. I do not know how to check the speed info. Something else I should research. Thank you for your response and have a good day.

Cable will be much faster than DSL, though I never used it. I am using DSL and the speed is good both in upload and download.

I think DSL may be a better value. If it is fast enough then why pay so much for cable is what I am asking myself. But I haven't tried DSL. Thank you responding, and have a happy day posting.

I do wished our local area would have more than one cable company available. I have heard that it is possible, but no other cable companies seem to want to step up to the plate.

The amount that verizon charges for DSL is exactly the same as Cox charges for Cable and cable is much faster and you get a whole lot less viruses.

I have cable and its faster than DSL. I know that I have my phone through my internet with my cable company and its even cheaper than vonage so you might want to call and see if you can get a good deal. I have internet, phone, and cable for $145month. Thats better than what I was paying before. I was paying about $125 month for just phone and dsl. (Of course I have to have unlimited long distance cause all my friends and family live far from me)

I have all 3 now through my cable service provider... Comcast. Unfortunately their service is very poor. I have only had it a month - today - and unfortunately half the time they don't even call you back to schedule an appointment for someone to come out and look at it. Very poor service.

it really depends on the ISP. theoretically DSL should be faster than cable. however, common scenario is cable internet is a shared connection among all cable users in the area. common DSL packages are the same. in this case, it would depend on the so called saturation point in the area. how many users are using the service, how much is the allotted bandwidth in that area also, if for example, at this particular time, there are 10 users in the same area, same saturation point, max bandwidth will be divided by roughly 10. so if right now, there are 10 users using DSL while there are 20 users using cable (assuming allotted bandwidth is the same), then DSL users will experience faster speeds and vice versa

I think that is one of the reasons AOL was so slow way back in the day when I had that. Thanks for the informative response and have a great day!

DSL is just a form of slightly faster dial up. Cable is much faster, doesnt require the use of you phoneline at all, is in a seperate jack all together. So it is much better to.

Thanks for your response. I have my phone through my cable, so it sounds like this would involve signing up for something additional.

I use cable and I hate it because the bandwith is shared between users and most of the times you don't get the speed you are supposed to. I would recommend to you ADSL connection because it is much more stable, not as fast as cable but...
