There are many people who love puzzles. I too love to work puzzles but I just hate it when the box tears up and you begin to loose piece of the puzzle. This idea comes from Family Fun Magazine.
You could purchase a puzzle very cheap or you could use one that you already have. Just make sure it is in good shape. The box is the first things that tears up on puzzles. This idea will eliminate that problem.
You will need:
1,000 piece puzzle
Quart Jar - any kind will work well as long as it is large enough
Simply put the puzzle pieces into the jar. Decorate the lid with some pretty fabric. Add a picture of the puzzle from the box.
Don’t forget to add a picture though so they will know what the puzzle looks like.
These are very nice gifts as they are easy to store and look nice. No more problems with torn up boxes.

That's a nice a idea!!!! Though I have manage to keep my puzzle box intact and not broken but it's beeter to have that way. Ilove puzzles much and I've been collecting it. None of the people likes it tohugh since it takes time to work on it. But it sure help me to store my puzzles here.

that is a great idea...it is impossible to open a puzzle box without destroying it for some reason...
they now have it so you can order custom puzzles with a picture of your choice on it - comes in a decorative tin
come to think of it, a cookie tin would be good to reuse also...
another nice thing to make is a black felt mat so the puzzle lover can move the puzzle from location to location if needed.

THe suggestion you speak on is very good. never thought about a jar. I have numerous puzzles in my closet and won't open them because I hate to lose the pieces. I get the Bits and Pieces catalog, and want to purchase a Puzzle Plateau, where you have you work in session, but underneath it, you have compartments that stores your puzzles. They come in a 1000 pc size for $39.99 and 1500 size for $49.99; www.bitsandpieces.com

Oh my Village, where were you with this idea when my children were small? They had so many puzzles with torn boxes. It kept me busy trying to straighten them! I finally used the very large ziplock bags...cut the front of the puzzle box and put into the bag and then the pieces. Then laid all the baggies in one of their shelves. The jars would have been so much cuter! (however, they might have broken them) I will pass your idea on to my adult puzzle lovers, I'm sure they will be thrilled! Your posts are always so useful! Have a Merry Christmas!

LOL Well you will just have to keep this idea in mind for your grandchildren. LOL We too used the bags for a long time but we hated it. They were ugly and who wants to see something ugly on the shelf all the time. LOL Hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family. :)

I wonder if you could make your own puzzle, I found the directions here http://tn.essortment.com/howtomakeyour_rgzx.htm
All you need is to have a photo of something that would be challenging to put together and have in enlarge, glue it on cardboard, cut it in funny shapes, put a copy of the original photo on the jar like you said, but at least this time they will get an original.

What a great idea. I wish I had thought about this when I was doing day-care. It sure would have saved a lot of time searching for missing puzzle pieces. I'm going to make a few of these for the grand kids. Thanks for the great tip.

That's a very nice idea I have a collection puzzle and that's my problem too. I have an idea too I put mine into cans like old chocolate can that can handle 1000 pieces or more and I also put on the top the picture of the puzzle so that I know what it looks like.

What a great idea, my kids puzzle boxes get so trashed. Another idea I got from one of those magazines was the mark all the pieces in one color so if they get mixed up it is easier to separate. We have a lot of puzzles that have the same size pieces so one puzzle is purple, another red, etc.

That is a wonderful idea! Thanks for sharing. That would make it easier to put the piece back in with the puzzle that it belongs too. Love that idea. Thanks
