-How do you get your mother to listen to your side of the story? We often argue about issues that she thinks are not worth fighting about. I feel that I need to get my point across, but she won't listen if she does not feel that the matters are worthy of a discussion. Any ideas?

My seven year old daughter tells me I don't listen to her all the time. Often, I am too quick to say no when I think I know what she is requesting. But sometimes I don't, and she gets really frustrated. Usually, she starts to cry and then I have to convince her to tell me what I haven't given her a chance to articulate. I guess sometimes I just try to go too fast, or I'm distracted by something else so I react and don't take the appropriate amount of time and care to listen.

Yes, I hope I get better at listening and understanding my daughter's needs. Sometimes I just feel like I have so many demands coming at me simultaneously that I don't deal with them as well as I'd like to.
