Super Size America's Next Top Model

A Plus Size Model never wins this show, and usually doesn't even make it very far. The judges make a huge deal that the models choosen are beautiful but always they find something wrong. It is true that the plus size models cannot do all the things the others can just b/c of their size. They may not fit into the designers clothes, they may get tired easier than other girls, and they have to learn to model in a way that works for their body. So... why don't they have a Super Size season? A season with only plus sized models? I think a plus sized girl needs a chance to win and I don't think one will ever win unless they are only against other plus sized models. Besides "plus size" on this show seems more like "regular size" to me. None of the plus sized girls have looked very heavy to me, whereas all the other models usually look way skinny. What do you think? Is this a good idea for giving the plus sized models a chance? Or do you think it's fair the way it is now?

There is a plus size model contest. Its called Moniques FAT contest. I think FAT stands for fabulous and thick. Americas next top model will never be a full size woman because America is not ready for that yet. I dont even know why they waste time adding a plus size woman to the show building their hopes up. Its just a media ploy to let others think the contest is "fair". No one really believes that and they are really insulting viewers by doing this.

Yeah I agree. I think they only put the plus sized in at all to be politically correct, but as long as they are not picking one to be in the top EVER, I think they should have separate contests. I haven't seen Moniques show, I should look for that. Not only do the plus sized models on the show build their hopes up, they also start to feel bad b/c they are different. Almost all of them break down at one time or another because they can't do the same as the skinny girls can.

Hey you are so right. They all leave saying it was a great experience and I don't remember one saying "I'm going to continue trying to be a plus sized model!" It seems like they think if they can't make it on the show, they won't make it at all.

Yeah and by the time they leave the show, they forgot why they even came on the show! They all start off with the same comment "representing plus size yada yada" and then leave saying it was a great experience. What a shame. Maybe they should change the title of the show or like you said, have 2 contests.

This could form a lot of bad comments. I don't think it's fair but it is what most people want to see, that's nice but it's the world we live in. maybe they could do a contest just for the bigger type? I don't think it's fair to say oh we haven't one which is green, choose her. ~Joey

Yeah I don't know for sure if most people want to see super skinny girls, especially when no one I know in real life is a size 0 or 2! I would be all for seeing a "regular" sized or plus sized only competition. I agree with others though, I don't think they'll do it.

Yep no one. In my crowd a lot of times I'm considered the skinny one! There are a few girls I know who are thinner, but I still don't think they could possibly be a size 0 or 2. At the very least they are 4. Maybe it's because I live in a wintery state and ppl need a little more meat to keep warm :)

Well the market for girls is mainly skinny and the fact it sells because guys like it and girls want to look like them. No one? It's quite strange, where I live these days 90% of the girls you see are either skinny as hell or larger. normal seems to have disappeared and replaced by healthy ways. I'd rather see more people normal both skinny and larger people, only due o health reasons. ~Joey

I don't think it's fair, I think it's fashion. The thing about fashion is that it's allways around a certain type of body you need to have, certain type of clothing, etc. If you don't it into the picture you are instantly not good enough for being a model and some people will even judge you on it without looking into who you really are. Plussized girls deserve a chance to win, they can shake it and make their way around the cat walk just as good as any skinny girl. We all deserve to take a chance because being a model is not only about being thin, having a pretty face or knowing a lot about fashion, you need attitude, style and flair, and I've seen some very charasmatic girls that were overweight but knocked down everyone by their luminating appearance. They deserve a chance! Years ago we had the same problem the other way around when 'Rubens woman' are still very popular. Skinny woman were considered ugly and not fed enough and heavy woman were very sexy and lustfull. I also hate it that you have to be a certain lenght to be a model, at least to be a catwalk model. That cat screw up a lot for a girl too.

It seems that the plus size model will never win. I agree, they can't really be expected to fit in the same clothes and do the same runway shows. They're not stick thin but not overweight either...maybe their own show would be a good idea...certainly more people could identify with them than the other supposed "regular size" models.

Yep I agree. I saw a preview for this weeks show and it looks like some of the clients are going to tell this year's plus sized model that she's too big for them. So it's like Tyra sends the plus sized model on the same castings of the "regular" models and it really isn't fair b/c it's not what the clients are looking for. If they had a show for plus sized ONLY, then they could go on castings that are specific to them and it would be fair.

Eventhough they say that models need not be stick thin but be healthy... there is still bias when it comes to models who are not the usual size...but for me... i prefer models who are size 4 rather than those who are size 0 or 2... I remember that Tyra had and episode in her show where in they had this America's Next Top Plus Size Model... the contestants underwent the same things as the regular ANTM show... but theirs was limited to Tyra's show only...

So you must wonder why she can't make a whole season about Plus sized models. Do you think the network is just afraid people won't watch? I think they'd actually get more viewers because they would get people who usually don't watch b/c they don't like skinny people. I am happy a lot of the girls lately have been more of a size 4 than a 0 like you said... but I'm still a size 6 or 8 so they all still look way skinny to me.

If ever they decide to start a plus size ANTM... i would definitely watch it... i'm a size four but i don't just watch ANTM because of the contestants... but because of the pointers i get when taking pictures or how to carry one's self in different situations... I hope Tyra would like make a different show about plus size models... she can be considered plus size now...

I totally agree with you. They have "plus size" models on the show on several seasons but they never make it anywhere close to the end. I don't think a size 10 is plus size but compared to the size 2 models on the show they look larger. I would love to see the plus size model win or at least get close to the end.

I think Whitney is doing very well this season and every photo shoot the judges tell her that her pictures are gorgeous. I really would love to see her win b/c she's fun and has a great outgoing personality. let's see if she's as good as she says! She said at the start she is tired of plus sized models losing their steam half way through the show and she promised not to do that. So far, she's doing great.

I would definitely watch a plus size model competition if Tyra decided to do it. I don't think it's fair for the plus models if there aren't designers chosen that will have clothes that fit them but it does give the ones on the show a chance to build a portfolio and get with an agency. P.S. The plus models on Tyra's show seem "regular size" because in the modeling industry what most people consider regular is plus to them. Agencies on the east coast usually consider plus to be size 10 and most working plus size models with large & well known agencies are size 10-14. On the west coast it's a little bigger.

I think that'd be a great idea, for a show of plus size models, but I'm not sure that it would be a successful show.

ohh wow vivasuzi i totally agree with you and yeah the plus sized models on the show never really looked BIG to me. but i think they should just have one season of super size models then it shoul dgo back to normal where regular and plus get to compete :) great idea
