Have you ever bought a Christmas present for someone and used it yourself?

I'm loving them! - peppermint patties

My mother loves to snack on chocolate candy so I bought her 4 bags of different kinds that she likes and put them into a Christmas bag along with another one of her smaller gifts. I'm sitting here tonight and all of a sudden I got a craving for chocolate...of which I have none of in the house...EXCEPT...yes, you got it! 4 bags under the tree! There's always tomorrow right? So, I took one of the bags that happens to be filled with dark chocolate covered peppermint patties and put it in front of me....and opened it!! Now I'm sitting here happy as I can be and no more craving! Tomorrow I will replace the bag and probably get 2 more to go with it! Have you ever done anything like this with someone's Christmas gift? Have you bought something for someone that you could use and ended up using it? If there's enough time left it can always be replaced right? Right!!!

hehehe I confess... yes I have. In some cases I did replace it in some others I didn't. A few years back I bought something - don't even ask my what because I don't remember LOL - for my mother in law and the more I looked at it the more I felt that I wanted it and that in the end she didn't deserve it anyways - I know mean , mean arkaf LOL . So I kept it, didn't even replace it. But usually I do replace it or get something else for that same person.

Aw you not feeling guilty are you?hee hee..Yes i have done things like that too.I have bought a whole christmas present for someone else and i wanted it so i kelp it and replaced it,no big deal...No chocolate is safe in my house ,i tend to eat it...I bought my brother candy for christmas and a shirt but i bought 2 boxes of candy cause i know me, and it would not have been safe..haha...So you just sit there and eat your chocolate and be happy, and yes tommorro is another day and you can replace it..I am sure we have all done something like that before..besides Mom don't know shhhhhhhh, don't tell...

xmas present - grill em!
I can't say that i Have dont that.. but i have bought my huubby something this year that he not only has said he wanted but something that we can use around the house! Is that bad for me to take advantage of the situation like that? I know he has said he wanted the item MANY times, but i KNOW i will use it more then he will.

LOL! I understand how those cravings can get, ctry. Your discussion is so timely because I had purchased this nice bracelet for a friend(this month), and once it arrived I decided that I had to have it for myself. It's not quite as bad as it sounds though, because I had already purchased another gift for her, so I will be keeping the bracelet for myself and she gets the other one. Your mom will come out on top because that little bit of guilt you have over eating her candy is going to make you buy her more.

I can understand the bracelet too. As long as you have something else for your friend your covered. My mother is probably going to also get something extra because I was just looking at the flyer for the store I'm going to and saw something I've been wanting to get her and it's on sale. I probably wouldn't have bought it if I wasn't going to the store for that candy!

Hehe....oh, yup I've done that. I was sick during the time my friend had her Halloween party so couldn't attend--I had a little special Halloweeny kind of gift all ready to give her..uh, never did..can transform it into a Christmas one instead. But part of the gift had lots of Reese's Peanut Butter cups--well one night, just like you I was having a fit for something chocolate, and yup, I made a piggy of myself and ate them all. LOL Just our secret, right?

I promise not to tell if you won't! The same thing happened to me with some Halloween candy I had for my granddaughter. You would think I learned a lesson from that but I didn't.

That's funny! I can't say I've ever done that, but I have gone back to the store and bought a second item (that I gave as a gift) for myself! I usually get jealous of the gifts I buy others because I tend to buy them better things than I do for myself!

Isn't that funny! I knew I should have bought some for myself but I didn't. I don't often get chocolate cravings but should realize once in awhile I do.

The closest I have gotten to this is when I bought another doll just like the doll for toys for tots. One year I saw this cute doll that was perfect for Toys for Tots. I bought her and fell in love with her. I gave her away but the next year I bought the same doll for me. i am so glad I did because the year after that, the toy store that had the doll closed.

HaHaHa! Well till now i haven't fallen into a situation like this where i had to use a gift myself which i had actually bought for someone else. But, if i spare some gifts that i intended to give but for some reason couldn't and also cant in the near future. Then i think that using it, whatever it is, would be the best thing to do.

I've done that with chocolate, as well! :) Last year I bought a box of Belgian chocolates to give to a friend of mine at Christmas, and when the craving struck, I ended up opening the box and giving in. I replaced it a few days later, too. :)

I had a company send some food to my Brother's house for X-mas. He ate it all before X-mas and they were one-of-a-kinds so he went out and bought close to it.

I have few times. My son opened few when he small so I could not give them like that and had to keep them (lucky I only buy things for others that I would use) then I have to go buy something for the person. Also if I buy something for someone and I dont see that person at all and its not worth sending it by mail then I keep it.

I used one of the presents I bought for my sister-in-law-to-be this past weekend. I was looking for a hard case for her sunglasses and could only find ugly ones. I purchased the prettiest ugly one and felt awful that it was the best I could do. After we were done paying and walking out of the store, guess what, there was a whole freaking table of beautiful cases! Rather than taking back the ugly case, I kept it for myself. After all, I didn't have one. LOL
