What would you do if you were taking a walk and happened to look down and find a wallet. In the wallet there was $636.00, a bunch of credit cards, and a drivers license and there was also a cell phone receipt with a phone number on it. That's what happened to my brother today. He called the number from the receipt and then went to return the wallet. The man that owned the wallet was very happy. He had been on the phone canceling all of his credit cards when my brother had called about the wallet. He tried to give my brother $100.00 for bringing him his wallet, but my brother didn't except the money, and told him to have a Merry Christmas.
So I would like to ask what would you do if you found this wallet would you keep it or return it.

I would certainly return the wallet. Your brother did the honourable thing. I think he should have taken the $100.00 even though he did not expect a reward. Your brother must be a wonderful person. I certainly hope the kindness that he gave will be returned to him some day.
Merry Christmas to your family.

I would have done exactly what your brother did, with one exception. I'm so poor right now I would have taken the 100 dollar reward as a blessing from God, lol. You have a brother with wonderful character. I honestly wouldn't even think about keeping the wallet because of how I was raised, and we all should know right from wrong. My parents just HAD to instill honesty in me, : ).

I think that was really sweet of your brother to return that wallet...uh, maybe a little daft for refusing some kind of reward though..LOL
It would depend naturally. I would do everything possible and make every effort to return the wallet naturally if there was proper ID. As they say, what goes around comes around as I would hope someone would return my wallet if the tables were turned. Ah, but what if there wasn't any form of ID to locate the person, then how could one return it then? What would one do then?

Hi Pye:)
He didn't except the reward money because he felt good enough just being able to return a wallet to someone who lost it. When he saw how happy the guy was to get his wallet back, that was reward enough. He said if there wasn't a way to find the owner of the wallet, he would of gone to the police with it.

Bravo to your brother! I'm with him! I'd try to return it. It's the right thing to do. Just put yourself in their shoes...if you lost $636.oo...you'd be pretty upset. I know that much money would probably pay a lot of bills and utilities and would take 2 weeks pay for me! Of course, I never have that kind of cash on hand anyway...I use debit cards or checks!

Your brother will be rewarded one day and it'll be worth much more than the 100.00 or the 636.00. I know it's tempting and face it especially this time of the year, but you must always think of this being your wallet and how would you feel. That makes a house payment for me, and with that said I would have to return the wallet. I did find a wallet many years ago and I had barely enough money on me to go for coffee and coffee was about 50 cents then. The wallet belonged to a young fellow. He'd got out of the work truck to let one of the other passengers out and I guess when he got back in the truck his wallet fell out of his back pocket. I went in the wallet got the phone number and as it turned out he didn't have a vehicle, which is why he was riding with these other guys. I drove to his appartment and he met me outside at my car. He offered to give me money too, but before he said how much I told him no thank you, but I ask that if one day you find a wallet please return it, that's what I want for payment and he said he certainly would. He was very thankful and it left me feeling good.

I too would return the wallet if I could find the owner. If there was not a way to find the owner then I would turn it into the police , but I would make sure that everything was recorded so that it did not just disappear in the police station.

I'd also return it, although I probably would have accepted the $100.

I would return the wallet too. The way I see it if we are honest maybe more people will be honest and hand in our stuff if we are ever unfortunate to lose our wallet etc. Your brother is a very nice person to return it. It makes you realise there are still some honest people out there. Thank you for sharing such an inspiring story.

I agree with your brother's behavior. If I kept it,I just could spend $636 or more in the credit cards, but one day the money would be used up.If I gave the wallet back, the owner of lost property would be extremely happy just like the one you mentioned. Maybe, he will remember the thing for a long time and he will do the same thing when he comes across a lost wallet.

I would have done the exact same thing your brother did, I think. It would make me feel good to think that I had brought back a very happy Christmas to the owner, who probably was imagining his Christmas would be a very sad one. That's what the Christmas spirit is all about.
Well done your brother! Brightest Blessings to you, your brother and all your family in wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

I found a wallet about 3 years ago stuffed with money and credit cards. I looked for an address but could not find one, only the person's name. I took it to the police station and they quickly traced the owner. The police called me and told me that the woman who owned the wallet was very grateful and wished to thank me for my honesty. That message was far more valuable to me than if I had kept anything that had been in the wallet. I would never keep somebody else's wallet. I do not know the circumstances of that person and if it was lost to them permanently, it may send them into terrible stress. I wouldn't like it done to me, so I do not do it to anyone else. :-)

I must honestly say I would *probably* have kept the money and mailed the belongings to the address on the license. I've got to be honest.
