New Line, MGM and Peter Jackson have announced today that they have worked out their differences and are beginning to work on The Hobbit for a 2010 release. They will actually do it in two movies, filmed simultaneously just as LOTR, to be released on 2010 and 2011. Jackson will be executive producer, so they'll need a director. So, who do you think should play the roles and who should sit in the director's chair? I think Gandolf, Elrond and Galadiel should all be the same actors. Bilbo should be younger and maybe Andy Serkis can play Gollum again.

Well according to IMDB Guillermo del Toro has been placed in the director's chair for this. He did Hellboy and Blade 2. Have no clue how good he will be for this project but I hope he does a great job. So far nothing listed there for the actors but I'm going to keep my eye on it and hopefully they will update that part soon as well.

Well I can't really say much about him as a director. I did see Hellboy but that's about it of his. I just hope who ever does direct it does an excellent job of it. The story is worth telling and worth telling correctly.

According to an interview with del Toro, he is not sewn up for the job yet. He wants to do it, but stated that there are still some things left to tie up for him to do it. I think he might do a good job, but not sure if it will have the same feel as Jackson had with LOTR.

The director has not named yet but rumors said that it was sam raimi or else alfonso cuaron. It would be great if Peter Jackson will be directing it because its adaptation of lotr may be needed in the hobbit...In the character, im sure andy serkis as gollum ,elrond, and gandalf will play same characters. Ian holm will play only when he found the ring because it was portrayed in the lotr movie. Bilbo's character is young in the hobbit. Cate Blanchett will play galadriel as narrator...Frodo w/ same character will appear in the hobbit 2 but not much ..aragorn will also appear with same character...

I heard Frodo and Aragorn would not be the same person having the role, which is kinda bad, because not sure people will identify themselves with Frodo and Aragorn as much as they did in LOTR.

Yes. I have something to look forward too. Still have two years to wait though. Yey, I am excited to meet the actors playing the dwarves. The Hobbit is my favorite. The actors should portray their roles well.

I would like to see all the same characters as Lord of the Rings (provided of course that they actually appear in the Hobbit). I think nothing is worse then seeing a movie where certain actors play certain roles and then going to see a sequel or another movie that have the same characters but different actors and actresses in those roles.

Oh good. My husband will have something to look forward to. He enjoyed the LOTR trilogy alot. I think your choices for the roles are good. i couldn't do any better.I am a huge fan of Spielberg. Maybe he could direct. I am sure there are people who would disagree. Jackson did a wonderful job with LOTR that maybe he should direct too. That's alot of work.

I'd like to see Jackson direct, as well. I know people have tossed about Sam Rami (Spider-Man) as a possible director. I think he would bring a different vision for the world. Hopefully, whoever gets it, Jackson as producer will have a majority say in it.

Oh I can't wait! Though two movies is slightly irritating, there is a lot to cover. All characters, save possibly Bilbo, should be played by the same actors. Let's all keep in mind that Bilbo left the Shire at the age of 50 (Frodo did the same) so it wouldn't be to far-fetched to have the same actor play him for this movie. Oooh I wonder who they'll get for all the Dwarves (that's right with a 'v' as it should be).

I agree with you, I wish they will keep all these actors for their roles. Too bad it's coming out only in 2010!
