Do you secretly or overtly hate the holidays?

Do you hate the holidays - deep down or on the surface? If so, why? Are you a grinch who doesn't like to have to spend the money? Does it remind you of being alone? Are you far from your family - or without one - lost your love or never had one? If you hate the holidays, please tell me why...

I don't hate it or love it. This year I have no feelings about it either way. There isn't anything I really want to get for someone or that I want to see under the tree.At my house we celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas.Hanukkah was okay but I don't have the feelings I should have this year.

What do you think is different this year, as you say "I don't have the feelings I should this year". Indicating that usually the feelings are there.

Well this time a few years ago I was excited to see everyone's face when they open their gifts. I was curious to see what I got too.And I had more gifts to get and wrap.Back then my mom was alive and I would enjoy shopping and surprising her each year. And I would wrap her gifts that she had for the rest of the family so I had a lot to do. so a few years back, her last Christmas everything was perfect.I got everyone everything they wanted and I got everything on my list too. The weather was good and I got to see all my holiday shows. Christmas dinner was great too. i thought it was going to hard to top it and I haven't. This year there are less gifts to get, I don't have anything special that I want so I am not in the holiday mood.

There are aspects of the holidays that depress me. Partly it's separation from family and loved ones. But the whole gift giving thing is kind of a downer. Of course I loved it when I was a kid, but then, I only received gifts at Christmas or on a birthday, so it was kinda special, and any little was appreciated. It just seems such a waste of money and one big greed festival. The commercialization is also rather nauseating. Maybe I'm just nostalgic for the way the holidays used to make me feel, or maybe that others seem to have a bit more fun than I do. I guess if I had more money I'd be able to get away to somewhere more festive, or reunite with more of my family. Anyway, there are few things I like about the holidays - top of the list being a few days away from work! Thanks for providing the opportunity to kvetch!

I have to agree with you. It is less about family and well - magic then getting big card and toy companies fatter. Thank you for kvetching, do so in my threads anytime! Funny picture, I like it. Cute!

I don't hate the holidays so I really can't respond properly to your discussion. I don't feel like a grinch, a meanie or anything of the sort during the holidays(its the opposite for me: getting gifts, visiting people, helping charities). A few people have said I have a bit of a bleeding heart. I can somewhat see it, but I personally wouldn't go that far.
