Are you expecting many trick or treaters?

Or is house to house trick or treating becoming obsolete? We've lived in 3 different places in the last 25 years, and we've never had many kids come to our door. Most of the parents I know are taking their kids around to people they know or to special public get-togethers at a mall or somewhere.
I remember trick or treating from my childhood and how different it was then. We could go all over town without any fear of crackpots, poisoned treats, or other predators. I remember one woman who always gave us warm, home-baked cookies. We got a ton of homemade popcorn balls and things which we never worried about not being safe. And back then a lot of people gave out full-sized candy bars instead of the little minis distributed now.
Plus, no one had realized yet how bad all these goodies were for us, so we were allowed to eat as much of it as we wanted. We would get huge sackfuls and enjoy every bite. We didn't have fast food and goodies every day like kids do now, so Halloween was truly a special holiday for us.

'Trick or treat' is not (or was not in my day) a big thing in the UK. I think that is odd, since I believe that the American custom came mostly from these Isles. I remember when I was a kid we used to go to Halloween parties and play Bob-Apple and other games such as Cutting the Flour Pie.
Halloween is actually a night when one should stay indoors - preferably in good company (and hence the parties) - because it is a night when spirits are supposed to roam abroad and to venture out, especially alone, is not a very good idea at all. I suppose the idea of 'trick or treat' came about with young people daring to disobey the old ways (but you notice that they go about in groups) and challenge the beliefs by aping the idea of 'spirits abroad'.

We got 0 trick or treaters, too. My husband felt so bad, because he loves answering the door and talking to the little ones. Of course, we didn't expect any because we live out of the way for even our closest neighbors, but we can always hope for better next year.

We don't have many neighbors. The ones with kids take them into town to do their trick-or-treating, so no not expecting many.

When you get fewer children, you can give each on more. At our old house we let the kids dig into our bowl of treats with both hands. Of course, there weren't very many houses in our subdivision, so there weren't many places for the little ones to go. Have a great Halloween!
