Well, my little fiasco of the cookies and no sugar is behind me and I might add that I found out today that my dear mother also left eggs out of the recipe but I got that out of her today on the phone! She laughs when she tells me that my aunt is upset that her cookies don't come out anything like my mothers and I wonder what my mother didn't tell her to put in that recipe...lol! I'm not saying my mother would do it on purpose but....lol...anyway!!!
My cookies are done and my apartment smells so good! I always put a bit more Anisette in than the recipe calls for so you can imagine what it smells like! lol....When I told my son that I made them he was here before the first tray was out of the oven and had to have his warm. Now the big thing is for me to keep away from them because not only are they fattening but I want some for when my granddaughter is here this weekend!
Have you done any baking for Christmas or do you think it's too early? How did everything turn out? Make any boo boo's???

Every Christmas I make anise cookies...an old recipe of my mothers. They sell them in the stores but although mine don't look as nice I think mine taste better.

those sound delicious.I know yours is better than store bought any day.Well i haven't got to the divinity yet because today i made a double batch of sand tarts and they turned out good..I always give some of my cookies and candy away thats why i make so much.I take some to my brother ,and then i will take some to my daughtes,a big tray of all the different kinds i make ,and i always give out cookies when people come over..I love to give, it makes me happy.I like to do things for people when i can because when they are not here any longer its too late...so tonight i will make the divinty candy and the pumpkin rolls..

From what I see in your picture I think the cookies look pretty. My mom uses anise in a few of her recipes...pizzelles and biscotti. This year she made a ton of chocolate chip, pizzelles, cuccidati, and date pinwheels...and I've already eaten way too many. :)

Success at last, ctry! I'm glad your cookies finally turned out perfect, and only wish I was there to sample one or two, LOl. That reminds me of the time when my family all lived in the same area and I was constantly baking cookies for the grandkids. Now everyone is scattered, and I don't get to see the next generation nearly so much, so I don't bake very often. I had not given any thought to baking, but now that you mentioned it, I just might bake some sugar cookies.

I think it's nice to bake even if it's just for ourselves. I even shared with my neighbors. I'm going to send some to my daughter in CA and I'll probably be baking another batch before Christmas. I have to stop eating them though...lol....
