Did you know that when Charles Dickens wrote his book, A Christmas Carol celebration of Christmas had all but died out here. If only he had kept his mouth shut or pen still in this case, we would have been spared so much of this festival of greed. all the best urban

What?! Festival of greed?! True, there are some people for whom Christmas is all about greed, but those are mainly people who are greedy in general anyway! Christmas did not make them greedy! They were already greedy and those people will continue to be greedy rather we have Christmas or not! Christmas is about sharing and love and joy! I love Christmas! The Christmas lights are pretty and so are most of the other decorations! I also like giving people presents, it makes them happy and puts a smile on their face. Yes, I said I like GIVING presents, not receiving them!.....Oh well, if you don't care for Christmas, then you don't. That's your right. Just please try not to be one of those people who try to ruin it for people who do enjoy Christmas.

Of course Christmas celebrated in the real spirit is a wonderful thing, I am just feeling so depressed that what should be a celebration of love has become a festival of greed. all the best urban

I can uderstand that, but if that is how you feel, then why not set an example by going out and celebrating Christmas the way that it SHOULD be celebrated? Perhaps others may learn from your example.

Maybe there is something you will find it hard to notice -- underlaying the Christmas greed, is the expension of western culture and values. Now Chinese people also celebrate the Christmas, though in a small scale. And Christmas in China is more an expression of greed rather than a occassion of celebrating. Roses are sold at a high price. Xmas trees are sold like a silver tree. Something has gone wrong here but no body intend to or can do anything about it.

I did not know that. You learn something new every day. And to think I used to really like Dickens. I will have to rethink that now.
