What do you do on Dec 31st to receive the New Year?

Here in Spain, unlike many other countries, New Year's eve is a very familiar event as well, almost as much as Christmas Eve. That implies that most people have dinner with the family, and not with friends as they do in other european countries or in north America, for example. Here most young people have dinner and receive the new year with family, and then at about 1am they go out with friends to parties until 8 or 9am...which is what I am planning to do!! hehe In your case, what do you do? Do you spend the night with friends at a party, or with family?

I usually go out with friends to celebrate at midnight. We stay out until around one in the morning. Sometimes I like to go out just before midnight and go down to the beach. It is lovely to look across to Wales just over the water. Many fireworks are go off and there is quite an exciting atmosphere. However the weather can be rather cold and so when I do this I have to wrap up warm. On the night 31st December 1999 I went to London with a group of friends we stood near the River Thames and watched the most fantastic fireworks in the sky. It was very crowded and people lent against each other. It was just packed out with people everywhere. After cheering at midnight I walked to the train station and there was broken glass all over the place. What an exciting evening, a new year and a new century. Wow! Have a wonderful New year's Eve!

Christmas with extended family and very close friends. New Year with friends, acquaintance of just the immediate family that is how I was brought up and do not see much reason to change it. Partying with friends was all well and good, but now with small kids - the idea of a quiet celebration to usher in the New year with optimism, good cheer and solidarity with your loved ones seems to be the way to go! Cheers and Happy New Year to all!

You know Lightnin darling I think that is one of the things I like best about Spain - it is so family orientated! I noticed that when I was visiting my brother. This year I will be spending New Year with my partner and my youngest - she will get to stay up to celebrate! My eldest is going to Stirling Castle with my ex husband to see The Proclaimers - it is an outdoor event in a fantastic place with an historic backdrop - and the temperature will probably be below freezing! Hope you have a fantastic time sweety! xxx

I will go singing with my friends in KTV. Then at about 11:30 we will go to the spuare to welcome the new year. In China many young people prefer to receive the New Year with friends. And we will stay with our families in Spring Festival.

There's no winter here in our country so we have the luxury of lighting fireworks. KABOOM! I think we got the Chinese belief that it drives away evil spirits, so that we will have a good start for the new year. When I was a kid I was very excited lighting all the fireworks. But now that I'm grown I'm not that much into it anymore. I just like to relax at home and have a nice midnight meal with my family.

Depending on how I feel, I might stay up long enough to see the new year in, otherwise I'm going to bed - I have to work the next day.
