I need to know what the smallest dog is for a guy. I'm in my mid-20's and don't want a sissy lookin' dog but I want a dog that will stay small forever. I need a companion to bounce ideas off of. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. BTW: Money is an issue so the cheapest will be best.

A very good companion, and quite small dog is cocker spaniel. They are very cute, they can even hunt if trained, and they dont get big size. They can handle indoors life and outdoors as well.I would suggest those, always wanted to get a cocker spaniel.I once had a Brittany spaniel but they are bigger...

Thanx makatas, I don't really know a thing about dogs. I've had many in my life but didn't really care what breed they were. But now that I want a certain size and everything knowing breeds are important. Thanx Again.

We have a male daschaund who is emotionally attached at the hip to my husband. These dogs are very true to their owners and small. We happen to have a mini-daschaund who is not as long as the usual breed. He is a wonderful pet and easy to take to the vet or anywhere in the car. I've seen other men with dogs of this size and breed. Good luck with your choice. Merry Christmas.

My husband comes home from work and talks to the dog before he says a word to me.....lol They are best buds and I would highly recommend this breed of dog.

Thanks for the advice carol, as usual. A mini would be the choice because the longer ones creep me out a little. I don't know why, but they do. You through the husband thing in there and that kind of sealed the deal. Happy Holidays 2 U and Yours.

I think terriers and retrievers stay pretty small even as they get old. As for price I think the local pound is the best deal. I think they make you pay for the shots and that's it, otherwise I believe after 30 days they have to kill the animal unfortunately due to overcrowding.

Thanx for the info jormins. the pound will be my next stop, or first depending how you look at it. And I hate animal cruelty with a passion so if I can liberate at least one puppy that's a start.

Go to your local pound. Since money is an issue I'm sure you aren't looking for anything AKC registered. But if you want a certain breed I would go with a terrier like Eddie on the show Frasier.

thanks for the assist, I love Fraiser, and his fathers little dog too! So that might be a good look. I'll definitely have to check into that.
