A Christmas Carol

Every year at this time, I do my best to sit down and watch some holiday movies, etc. One of my all time favourites is, A Christmas Carol, starring Alastair Sim, as Ebenezer Scrooge. This 1951 film, still carries a strong message for me today. I prefer the black and white version, although there are likely colorized ones available. What about you? What's your favourite version of this classic story? Who's portrayal of scrooge, is your all time favourite? Perhaps you've seen a stage version? Which character do you like the best, and why?

I've probably seen so many versions of A Christmas Carol and love them all, including the musical version "Scrooge" with Albert Finney. But I'm with you...the Alastair Sim version is probably the best as I love the boy in it who played Tiny Tim..Oh, and also love, believe it or not the Mr. Magoo version...ever see that?

Hi pyewacket, I'm like you. I don't think I've seen a version I didn't like. I've never seen the Albert Finney one though, so must try to find it. I have the (black and white version) dvd, of the Alastair Sim one. I too love Tiny Tim, in this one, and in fact, the whole Cratchit family. I find it very touching. Then there's Scrooge himself, of course, brilliantly performed by Alastair. I just love the part where he wakes up Christmas morning especially, and from there until the end. It moves me to tears (yes,it really does), when he shows up at his nephew's home, and polkas with his nephews wife. Then, 'the clincher' for me, is when they do the voiceover at the end, and Tiny Tim pulls 'uncle Scrooge' by the hand down the street, I believe in the opposite way to which he was going. Like I said, these things, and time of year, make me very emotional. I've never seen the Mr. Magoo one, but imagine I'd enjoy that too.:) Thanks so much for sharing. Merry Christmas to you, and 'your furbabies.'

Awwwwwww, this is just so touching. I'm glad you've shared this here, as I'm often the same way. When Tiny Tim pulls Scrooge by the hand, at the end, well ... Have you ever seen the Christmas movie 'Borrowed Hearts?' It's one of my daughter's and my favourites.

Are you kidding? I'm a real mush with a lot of Christmas type stories and cry buckets! I even cry at some of those old animated ones they had years ago and which I taped. Like Nestor the Long Earred Donkey, the Small One..and on and on. Oh, and I'm a basket case with the Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol too. There's one song "I'm All Alone In This World" ..forget it...need the box of tissues

I prefer A Muppet Christmas Carol. I'm well aware that I'm a full grown adult, but it's the most fun of all of them and I adore Michael Caine.

This is another version that I enjoy too. I love Michael Caine, and the fact that it's a musical. Thanks for sharing, and have a Merry Christmas.

It isn't Christmas without A Christmas Carol. My favorite version was made in 1938. It stars Reginald Owen.I think it is the 2nd version made. The first was in 1935, then 1938, then your version in 1951 was the third. I like mine because of Reginald's smile changed his face at the end that he really didn't look like "old scrooge". And I love Gene Lockhart's Bob Cratchit. He is so adorable. But I have seen and liked two other versions. One was a made for t.v. version starring Henry Winkler called An American Christmas Carol. It was set in the early 20th century. It was good. And I saw another made for t.v. version starring George C. Scott in 1988. It was faithful version. George was good.

I've heard of this one, but have never actually seen it. I always love the character of Bob Cratchit, in whatever version it is. I'd really like to see the Henry Winkler one sometime, and the George C. one, as well. Thanks for your response, and Merry Christmas to you.

I love Christmas Carol. The town I grew up in used to do a musical version of it which I just adored!
