How important is gifting in Life?

Every Christmas season there is a mad scramble for gifts the world over. How important do you feel it is to give gifts? Do you really feel that you want to give gifts or just give it as everyone else is giving it?

I give gifts to people I love at times other then Christmas and you are right, there are some gifts that are a matter of obligation.
I think that we have gotten way past what it should be for gift giving. I feel that gift giving should be for the kids, my 50 something year old brothers really don't need gifts, I never see them and have no idea what they need or want, yet they insist on gifts.
I wish some people would get a firmer grasp on reality.

I absolutely agree with you. In fact, I feel that gifts make more sense on occasions that are special to individuals rather than gifting seasons like Christmas. For e.g. if you kid won something at school, that is a moment to gift and make it special for the kid. But, as these kids grow up these days they grow up expecting to get a gift at Christmas come what may and that I feel is a bit sad.
